We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Our hikes through this captivating, rugged terrain climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, many of which are remote and do not intersect with roads accessible by Backroads vans. In some cases our shuttles will get us to and from the trailheads, but due to the nature of these trails, we usually won’t see our vehicles along the route.
Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders and local guides, and we’ll make use of the extensive network of mountain huts for provisions, meals and shelter.
Also, please note that our daily route options may travel in different directions from each other, depending on the route level. Please keep this in mind when choosing your walking/hiking option each day, especially if connecting up with other guests midday is important to you.
The Premiere Hotels on this trip are housed in beautiful historic buildings. While they offer outstanding service and amenities, please note that they are not equipped with air-conditioning. Despite the region's generally temperate climate and cool nights, guestrooms can occasionally become warm during peak temperatures.

Fulfilling a dream
The trip fulfilled and exceeded my dream of the last 10 years. The trio of guides and support personnel were very organized, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, diplomatic, passionate, helpful and all-around genuinely warm human beings. The camaraderie among the group was fantastic and just enhanced the quality of the trip. The accommodations spectacular and the sights extremely impressive. Hope to do another BR trip in the not too distant future!
The beauty of the Dolomites may be the best of my trips
Premier Inns certainly make the Dolomite trip cushier than the typical tour group hut to hut Dolomite experience. The inns and included meals highlight Italy's welcoming atmosphere. Backroads ensured that we had a wonderful Inn with access to trails, gondolas, or a shuttle to insanely beautiful spaces. Our trip leaders were highly experienced, and as usual, they individualized each day to meet the customers' needs. We have had many trips and have high expectations, but this trip exceeded expectations because of the absolutely amazing scenery and wonderful team leaders.

The Dolomites are Jaw Dropping
This trip was amazing. Our leaders Giulia and Camilla were always on top of everything and had amazing positive energy. The scenery is breathtaking. The food was delicious. Some of the hikes are pretty challenging, but it was a nice mix and great options were presented. Each of the three hotels were unique, but all were very nice. Our weather in September was a bit of everything from very warm to a short downpour and a bit cooler. The sauna at the Hotel Fannes is not to be missed. The history of the area was very interesting and a bit surprising. I highly recommend this trip!

Amazing views and hikes in a spectacular location!
Wow! Have been looking forward to hiking in this region for years, and it was even more magical than we hoped. The leaders were superb...incredible humans that share their passions and skills. Hotels were more than impressive...views, accommodations, spas and staff. And as a bonus we had a group of exceptional fellow backroads enthusiasts on our trip. It will be difficult to find a trip better than this (and this is our 12th backroads trip).
Exceptional in every way!
Everything about my trip was above a 10! Leaders, support staff, hiking routes, hotels, food, coordination and fellow trip participants! Most definitely exceeded my expectations!!!
We had a great trip in the Dolomites from start to finish.
The trip was absolutely great. Backroads did a top notch job from start to finish. Our guides Petra and Roberto was terrific.
Gorgeous hiking and memorable food
The hikes were challenging but doable for us (a couple in our 50s). The spa facilities (pools, sauna, steam bath etc) were high quality and helped restore the body. Guides were excellent, empathetic and mature. We went with our adult children (early 30s) and it was a wonderful bonding time. In mid July, it was cool in the mountains when blazing hot at sea level, and we had one day of rain which we hiked through no issues. This was a dream vacation.

Trip of a Lifetime - Arivederrchi!
Was anything less than excellent? Oh, maybe the manure smell / spray at the AlpenRoyale? Kidding, of course. Both Chema and Danielle shared their lives, their fitness, their knowledge of history and their joyful service to us with outstanding joy. Couldn't have been more pleased. Danielle was so impressive in running back to reffugio to reclaim Susan's forgotten sunglasses! Almost a triatholon. One thing: the discrepancies b/w the app hikes and the actual plan were a bit confusing. That's it. Hotels were outstanding, food was amazing, bus drivers were PROFESSIONALS.
Stunning!
I have been on many Backroads trips and this was one of the best! The mountain backdrop was stunning, the history and culture of the region fascinating and, as always, our guides were fantastic! This trip was, once again, further proof as to why I keep traveling with Backroads. They never disappoint.
Incredible adventure in the Dolomites
Incredible hiking trip in the Dolomites. The routes were fantastic with plenty of challenge for those who wanted it. The scenery was stunning. Lunches at the Refugios were incredible. The accommodations ranged from spectacular to very good (Hotel Romantik was our favorite) and the dinners were quite good and always a lot of fun. The best part by far of the whole experience were our incredible guides (Aitor, Giulia, Petra). Always upbeat, well prepared, knowledgeable and a whole lot of fun! This was my first (my wife's second) Backroads trip, and we can't wait to do our next one. Would highly recommend, total group was 9 couples and we were traveling with two other couples we knew. Missing being there every day since.
