Croatia Bike Tour

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast—Adventures on the Adriatic

  • Explore the picturesque Dalmatian Coast by bike, taking in its breathtaking sapphire sea views all along the way
  • Island-hop along the sun-drenched Adriatic and get your fill of pristine beaches and swimming in hidden coves
  • Enjoy the freshest seafood and regional cuisine, and sample wines made from Croatia's local grapes
  • Discover the ancient secrets of Dubrovnik, an architectural gem with turrets, spires and tiled roofs

245 days of yearly sunshine. Sapphire waters and whitewashed villages. Marvel at sublime Adriatic views while you pedal. Then be a part of the view as you boat between islands. It's as relaxing as the Caribbean, as historic as Venice. It's a destination reborn, yet it still feels like, as the Croatians say, “The Mediterranean as it once was.”

Best Trip Ever!

Comments about Dalmatian Coast Bike Tour:

My husband and I have traveled all over the world, and this may have been our best trip ever. Loved Croatia, the people, the food, the scenery, the bikes, the boat, the bike routes and especially our leaders. They were great.

Leaders are exceptional. Knowledgeable, helpful, spirited.

Comments about Dalmatian Coast Bike Tour:

This trip was non-stop. Intense biking, copious and delicious food, group tours and activities. Actually, a little too hectic with virtually no "on your own time" to explore a location or to rest. The only "down-time" was during boat transfers which were delightful. My favorite part was the opportunity to swim in the beautiful Adriatic every day. The leaders were superb - knowledgeable about the culture and history of the area, being natives themselves. Very helpful, indefatigable, good-hearted. They kept us on track to maintain the intense pace of a very full schedule.schedule.

We're still talking about it...

Comments about Dalmatian Coast Bike Tour:

My wife and I took this trip in September of 2016 and we're still talking about it. Our guides Emily, Quinan and Uros were outstanding. Every part of the trip was meticulously planned out but the schedule is not overly grueling. There is time spent biking, walking, boating, swimming, relaxing, eating & drinking, etc. We happened to have a great group of people on the trip as well. Backroads makes everything happen magically like your luggage going on and meeting you at your next destination and they found ways for us to visit places that you probably cannot find on your own... like lunch in a private home or a tour of a house where olive oil has been made for 300+ years. We keep referring to it as the trip of a lifetime or a life-changing trip and I don't think it's an exaggeration. We would love to do it again.

Comments about Dalmatian Coast Bike Tour:

My first time to Croatia and this was such an amazing way to see this country. I didn't realize Backroads would have us our own really cool boat to shuttle us between the islands, which was exceptionally cool. The bike riding and scenery was just fantastic (incredibly blue beautiful water!) but what really made this trip special was how frequently (daily!) the Backroads guides took us to off-the-beaten-path spots for lunch and dinner - literally in the homes of local people who shared their home-cooked meals and wine with us. Delicious!! I really felt like we saw and experienced the best of this amazing part of Croatia, avoiding any crowds or "tourist attractions" along the way. Do this trip, you won't regret it!

Couldn't Possibly Get Better!

Comments about Dalmatian Coast Bike Tour:

Once again, Backroads has exceeded our every expectation! We keep thinking that it can't possibly get better, yet each time we go - we enjoy the trip even more than the one before (if that is possible)! The consistently fantastic service, arrangements, leaders, and experiences (and oh yes, the biking) will keep leading us back to Backroads for our next cycling vacation. People keep asking us why we haven't tried any other organization that offers these experiences and our response is always "Why would we?". Until we have a reason to change (like the variety of trips, a negative or less than stellar experience, so-so leaders), we see no reason to try another group. Please keep doing whatever you are doing as it is most definitely working!

Why Travel with Backroads in Dalmatian Coast

You're Invited to Walk the Plank

After a day of biking by the sparkling waters of the Adriatic, at some point you naturally want to plunge in. We recommend waiting until you're back on board our private trabakul, the double-masted sailing coaster unique to this region, as the crew will drop anchor and suggest that you walk the plank—in a good way. And once you've enjoyed a refreshing swim in the sea, it's time to relax on deck with a cold drink and watch the coastline slip by.

More Leaders to Support You

On our Dalmatian Coast trips we have an extra leader supporting you along the road—for a total of three, compared to the industry standard two. So we can be in more places at once, giving personal attention to guests traveling at their own pace. Here's more on our Trip Leaders.

Great Bikes Included (or Upgrade)

Choose a Backroads Custom Titanium or Custom Electric Assist bike—both are included in your trip price. Maybe a Specialized carbon-fiber pro model is more your speed or go for double fun on a tandem. Our fleet is the best in active travel, so you don't have to roll the dice on this vital trip component. Learn why our titanium bikes are ideal for most riders. See the bike options for this trip.

A Second Van When You Need It

Backroads is the only active travel company providing two support vans in Dalmatian Coast—because we know it's essential to ensure a truly great travel experience. It doubles our ability to be there when you need us to offer hydration, lighten your load or give you a lift if it's time to take a break. Read more on why two vans make all the difference.

Navigate Your Way in Dalmatian Coast

Your ride comes equipped with a Garmin Edge Explore 1000, the best bike-touring GPS device on the market. This is a Backroads exclusive, and it's included with your bike in Dalmatian Coast. If you prefer to bring your own device, we also have downloadable GPS files and of course, our good old paper directions are always available. Read more on why our navigation options are the best.

The Value of Casual Inn Trips

In addition to the ideal balance of comfort and hospitality in our choice of lodgings, this Casual Inns trip includes nearly all of your meals, plus everything from cocktail receptions to the best snacks along the road. So there's rarely a need to reach for your wallet – we've got you covered.

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our Dalmatian Coast trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

Experts with Secrets to Share

In choosing the ideal experts to enrich your travel experience, we look for people with a wealth of local knowledge, but also the ability to convey their insights in English. Too often travelers find themselves smiling politely, not quite understanding what they're being told. Our experts share intriguing facts, anecdotes and inside stories that stay with you forever.

The Best Leaders in Dalmatian Coast

Backroads has the best-qualified people to lead your trip in Dalmatian Coast, and our guests back that up, rating our Trip Leaders an average of 9.75 out of 10 for all-around quality of performance. Get the facts (and no fluff) on how we recruit and develop the very best people for your trip.

In Europe Since 1988

Backroads has been welcoming active travelers to Europe since before the Berlin Wall came down. Today it's virtually our second home. We know the perfect roads and trails, the most scenic valleys and hilltop towns, the hidden churches and gem-like museums, the up-and-coming vintners and celebrated chefs—and, of course, all the best places to stay.

Our Cultural Roots Run Deep

Thanks to our extensive connections in Dalmatian Coast, Backroads takes you off the beaten track and deep into the region's culture in ways that traditional travel can never hope to do. We know the people and their customs, the legacy of art and architecture, the complex history and politic—and if we're not sure, our amazing local experts can fill in the blanks.

We Live in the Neighborhood

Our Trip Leaders in Dalmatian Coast live in the area and are deeply engaged in their communities, giving them unique inside knowledge they're happy to share in making your experience that much richer. They'll introduce you to people, customs and parts of town you'd likely never encounter on your own—and teach you a few local phrases to help break the ice.

A Variety of Routes Each Day

In Dalmatian Coast you head off each morning after choosing among several expertly designed routes—all with detailed directions, mileage and shuttle options. Unlike trips with one fixed daily route (or worse, one guide that everyone's obliged to follow), you're free to enjoy the best of the region at your pace, stopping wherever you want to explore further.
