Itinerary

Days 1-2 Rendezvous in vibrant Sevilla and pedal through los pueblos blancos, one of Spain's most scenic routes | Visit a family-run olive oil press before biking through the countryside past Zahara de la Sierra, a white village that was once a Moorish outpost | Pine-clad hills in the Grazalema Mountains serve up challenging climbs and heavenly views | Discover the rich history of Ronda, an ancient capital that has inspired centuries of literature | Perched on a high plateau and sliced in half by a sheer vertical gorge, the town's setting is as spectacular as its wines!

Day 3 Dramatic cliffs and vistas lead to the desert-like plains of Spain's “wild west”—an area famous for limestone caves and a history of bandits and smugglers | Enjoy an uphill in the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park—a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—followed by a thrilling downhill to the tiny village of El Burgo | Take in views of the Guadalhorce River in the valley below | The village of Antequera, standing amid olive groves and crowned by a majestic Moorish citadel, lights up at night.

Days 4-6 Cycle through peaceful rural Andalucía past flocks of sheep and olive trees | Marvel at 150-million-year-old limestone rock formations in the National Park El Torcal | Cruise the gentle rises and falls of a route with views of the beautiful town of Iznájar | Sink into a poolside daybed and unwind with an exclusive sherry tasting at a palatial hotel.

Everything was completely perfect. The routes were exciting and varied. Every day was different despite being so relatively close together. You could pick how challenging a ride you wished to have. The guides were outstanding (Javier Merchante Ruiz-Maleos, Alejandro Borregon, Christian Gonzalez-Iriarte, David Gallego). They were fun and informative but also very focused on safety. The hotel accommodations were superior as was all the food. I especially liked the evening at the convent just outside Antequerra especially since we had a wonderful outdoor meal with the sunset and the lovely valley. It was a quiet and peaceful setting to prepare for the final half of our adventure. Of course I was happy with the other two places as well but their beauty and setting almost goes without saying.Backroads included extras over and above the cycling routes, bicycles and guides. We had an excellent tour of Ronda, an Olive Oil estate and wine tasting as well as an evening of dance! A great value for money.

Terrain & Shuttles

With Andalucía's limestone cliffs and ancient hilltop towns, you can look forward to some great climbs and steep descents. If you want a boost, we can flatten some of the hills with strategic shuttles, but you should be comfortable with some long downhills or hopping in the van for a lift.

Comments about Southern Spain's Andalucia Bike Tour:

From start to finish, this trip to Spain was exceptional! For being called a casual trip the hotels were wonderful, and every hand picked lunch spot made you feel lucky to be traveling with Backroads. The riding was absolutely EPIC, but the guides had no problem supporting those who wished to do fewer miles. Wish I could go back to refill my olive oil :)

Comments about Southern Spain's Andalucia Bike Tour:

Andalucía has beautiful and safe roads for cycling. The food and wine are superb. The trip leaders and rider support were top of the line. The Backroads team that originally set up this particular cycling trip did an outstanding job in the design stage; not only the biking routes, but also the choice of hotels, cultural experiences, and special lunches. It is evident that a great deal of time and effort went into the organization and updating of this trip. The original Backroads staff who researched and set up the trip deserves a great deal of credit for the ongoing success of the Andalucía trip.

Comments about Southern Spain's Andalucia Bike Tour:

Everything about this trip was perfectly planned - the flow of the rides and hotels, the meals, the special surprises, all of it. The trip leaders were incredibly competent, kind and FUN. A highlight for me was a tapas meal on a warm night outside in a plaza with a surprise, impromptu dance show by one of our servers.

Comments about Southern Spain's Andalucia Bike Tour:

The weather, scenery, accommodations and food were all great. Plus the biking was a good physical challenge. Met some great people and developed a great friendship with someone I have stayed in touch with ever since notwithstanding the fact that we live 15,000km apart!

Why Travel with Backroads in Andalucía

More Leaders to Support You

On our Andalucía trips we have an extra leader supporting you along the road—for a total of three, compared to the industry standard two. So we can be in more places at once, giving personal attention to guests traveling at their own pace. Here's more on our Trip Leaders.

A Second Van When You Need It

Backroads is the only active travel company providing two support vans in Andalucía—because we know it's essential to ensure a truly great travel experience. It doubles our ability to be there when you need us to offer hydration, lighten your load or give you a lift if it's time to take a break. Read more on why two vans make all the difference.

We Speak the Language

If we told you many companies' leaders can't actually speak the language where they lead trips, you'd say incroyable... ridicolo... không the tha thú. At Backroads, fluency in the local language is a given. Find out more on the best leader recruitment, training and development in the business. (And by the way, that was "unforgivable" in Vietnamese.)

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our Andalucía trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

Great Bikes Included (or Upgrade)

Choose a Backroads Custom Titanium or Custom Electric Assist bike—both are included in your trip price. Maybe a Specialized carbon-fiber pro model is more your speed or go for double fun on a tandem. Our fleet is the best in active travel, so you don't have to roll the dice on this vital trip component. Learn why our titanium bikes are ideal for most riders. See the bike options for this trip.

Navigate Your Way in Andalucía

Your ride comes equipped with a Garmin Edge Explore 1000, the best bike-touring GPS device on the market. This is a Backroads exclusive, and it's included with your bike in Andalucía. If you prefer to bring your own device, we also have downloadable GPS files and of course, our good old paper directions are always available. Read more on why our navigation options are the best.

We Live in the Neighborhood

Our Trip Leaders in Andalucía live in the area and are deeply engaged in their communities, giving them unique inside knowledge they're happy to share in making your experience that much richer. They'll introduce you to people, customs and parts of town you'd likely never encounter on your own—and teach you a few local phrases to help break the ice.

The Best Leaders in Andalucía

Backroads has the best-qualified people to lead your trip in Andalucía, and our guests back that up, rating our Trip Leaders an average of 9.75 out of 10 for all-around quality of performance. Get the facts (and no fluff) on how we recruit and develop the very best people for your trip.
