Borja Uria Torres was born and raised in San Sebastián, Spain, where the mountains meet the Atlantic Ocean—a setting that sparked his lifelong passion for the outdoors. As a Backroads Trip Leader, he has spent almost 10 years guiding active travel adventures across destinations including Norway, French Polynesia, Tanzania, Patagonia, Peru, Japan and the Swiss Alps. With a background in rock climbing, surfing and a lifelong love of animals, he is passionate about nature, culture and meaningful travel. He enjoys sharing the stories behind the places he visits—from local traditions and history to conservation initiatives that help protect them. Through his writing, Borja hopes to inspire travelers to explore the world with curiosity, respect and a deeper appreciation for the people and landscapes they encounter.
