Activity Level: 2-4

Every Backroads trip is designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests and fitness levels. Several routes and a range of levels are offered each day so you can choose how much or how little activity you want to do. Learn more about how we determine activity levels.

Route notes

Though Kathmandu and Chitwan National Park offer gentler walking options, the hiking routes of our trip follow rocky mountain trails and dirt roads with steeper inclines and descents where you can expect to encounter uneven footing. The shorter distances covered each day reflect the extra exertion required to hike at high elevation and over the rough terrain of the Himalayas. In Chitwan National Park our walks are on jungle paths where we're likely to encounter mud and roots.

Straight talk

We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

Terrain & Trail Support

During our three days of hiking through the Himalaya region's captivating rugged terrain, we climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, many of which are remote and do not intersect with roads. Vehicles will get us to and from the trailheads, but the nature of these trails is such that we rarely see our vans along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leader and local guides.

Hiking in an Emerging World

Your journey through Nepal will be unlike any other travel experience. The people and places you visit will likely stay with you for a very long time. But as wonderfully fulfilling as travel is in Nepal, it's not always easy. Nepal is a developing country and different attitudes, as well as litter or scenes of poverty, can sometimes be jarring. Yet the beauty of the people, the culture and the landscape shines through, making for an amazingly exotic adventure that's unforgettable and completely worthwhile.

Flights

On this trip we travel by plane to reach the exclusive hotels and activities this destination has to offer. We'll be flying commercially with Buddha Air aboard ATR twin-turboprop planes that seat 42 passengers.
