Every Backroads trip is designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests and fitness levels. Several routes and a range of levels are offered each day so you can choose how much or how little activity you want to do. Learn more about how we determine activity levels.
The terrain on this trip includes rocky alpine trails among limestone peaks with steep sections that occasionally involve climbing or descending man-made steps. Trail width and conditions vary and include natural and groomed paths with loose rock and gravel. Keep in mind that we'll be hiking at high elevation, and the substantial elevation gain and loss (as well as the rugged terrain) can make the routes feel more challenging than the mileage may suggest.
We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Our accommodations for this itinerary have been carefully chosen to bring you an authentic experience in the Dolomites. These renovated traditional Dolomite lodges are located deep in the mountains to provide service to hikers. While not as luxurious as other Backroads accommodations, these properties offer warm hospitality, charm and character, in addition to modern comforts and amenities. If you request a double bed, please keep in mind that European double beds are often two twin beds adjacent to each other. On occasion, there is the potential to be assigned bunk beds. Single room availability is limited.
Our hikes through this captivating rugged terrain climb rocky and sometimes uneven paths, many of which are remote and do not intersect with roads accessible by Backroads vans. In some cases our shuttles will get us to and from the trailheads, but due to the nature of these trails, we usually won't see our vehicles along the route. Ample trail support in the form of water, snacks and encouragement is provided by your Backroads leaders and local guides, and we'll make use of the extensive network of mountain huts for provisions, meals and shelter.
