Days 1-2
Start your easygoing journey in Lisbon, Portugal’s cosmopolitan capital city • Past rickety windmills and historic villages, e-bike across the gentle slopes of Portugal's agricultural heart • Explore Aljezur Castle, one of the region's last Moorish strongholds during the Crusades • Lunch in Lagos, a photogenic beach town nestled amid honey-hued cliffs • Weave through breathtaking grottos and limestone rock formations as you kayak along the Costa de Ouro, or the "Golden Coast" • Walk the forested grounds of our hotel or treat yourself to a massage at its decadent spa.
Nights 1-2
Nestled in a breathtaking landscape that stretches from a plateau to the ocean, this nature-inspired refuge is the perfect place to rejuvenate. (pool, spa)
Days 3-6
Hike the Costa Vicentina, a rugged stretch of shoreline famed for its unspoiled beauty, pristine beaches and majestic cliffs • Sample freshly caught fish in seaside Arrifana, brimming with artists and locals • Pedal through the Serra da Grandola, where an e-bike ascent through wildflowers and cork forest culminates in panoramic scenery • Test your balance at a beginner surf lesson • Explore the fisherman's village of Porto Covo • Sample some of the region's azeite (olive oil) and take a peaceful ride through Santiago do Cacém.

The slower pace, relaxed approach to life and old-world qualities in Portugal are some of the highlights of this spectacular region and are reflected in the hotels and restaurants on this trip. This said, service can lack a sense of urgency when compared with the service found in other parts of Europe. Additionally, while the Premiere hotels we’ve chosen are some of the finest in the country, they may seem a bit simpler than the Backroads European standard. The same can be said for Portuguese cuisine, which is traditionally a celebration of local flavors but is also bit more rustic than other places we visit in Europe.
Due to variable ocean tides and weather conditions, the day and time of activities may vary somewhat by departure. Rarely, an activity may be canceled because of bad weather and/or conditions. If this is the case, your leaders will have alternative options planned.
