Days 1-2
Discover the unique geology and beautiful landscapes of Central Oregon • Kick off your family getaway in Bend, the state’s adventure capital • Soak up the relaxed Bend vibe on an introductory bike ride through forest and quiet neighborhoods • Adults get in some more miles biking along a favorite local route while kids head to the city's bustling riverfront with the Kids Adventure Leader • In Smith Rock State Park, hike amid sagebrush and red-rock spires alongside the Crooked River • Kids join an expert in a beginner’s rock-climbing class • Oregon’s legendary food trucks provide irresistible options for lunch • Stroll downtown Bend’s charming streets packed with art galleries and cafés or hop in the river • Grown-ups sip craft beer from award-winning breweries • Settle into our eco-chic hotel in the heart of this beloved city.

Days 3-6
Spin along a favorite bike path that parallels the scenic Cascade Highway, passing woodland, lava fields and alpine lakes • Take the chairlift up Mount Bachelor for views of Three Sisters peaks, Broken Top and the Cascade Lakes • Kids set off for a horse's-eye view of the mountain landscape with expert equestrian guides • Enjoy lunch with dramatic views of Mount Bachelor • Hike with a naturalist and learn about the area’s magnificent flora and fauna • Raft through Class II–III rapids as the Deschutes winds through beautiful woodland • Welcome to Crater Lake National Park—exploring this amazing park is sure to be a highlight of the week • Hike along Crater Lake's rim and then follow a favorite route to Garfield Peak for unsurpassed vistas of the stunning cobalt lake • At our resort, the younger set splashes down waterslides • A final bike ride takes you and your family to the Newberry Volcanic National Monument, a unique lava landscape.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
In order to access Crater Lake National Park, we shuttle two hours from Sunriver in the morning and two hours back in the afternoon on one day of the trip. While this is a more shuttle-heavy day than is typical on a Backroads trip, we’re confident the experience of biking and hiking in this remote but stunning national park is well worth it.
