This photo was taken during an amazing week of hiking the Quiraing on the Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye trip. Ruggedly beautiful, dramatic, challenging, and strangely magical. The lone hiker is a friend of mine~married to one of my lifelong friends. Fifty plus years of friendship and living on opposite sides of the country, Backroads trips are a wonderful way for us to share precious time together.

Iceland is magical! Our first full hiking day we we shuttled in a Super Jeep to the bridge over the Skógá River, then hiked along the river, past over 20 waterfalls, to reach Skógafoss. I had to capture the power of nature on full display, catching someone in a peaceful moment. It felt like the start of a grand adventure.

We traveled by gondola from Chamonix to the top of Aiguille du Midi at 12,600 feet, near Monte Blanc. When I stepped out onto the balcony and saw the sweeping views of the majestic glaciers it took my breath away. I was in awe at seeing the people hiking on the glacier below thinking that was just nuts. The next day we were the ones hiking on the glacier! It was an exhilarating experience!

While riding our bikes in Slovenia we couldn’t help but stop and marvel at the beauty of Lake Bled. It’s so unique to see the Church of Mary the Queen on a small island in the middle of Lake Bled. Our Trip Leaders swam to the island while we paddled on those boats provided by Hotel Bled after a beautiful morning ride. Thank you Backroads for taking us on this unforgettable adventure.
