Itinerary
Days 1-2
Say ahoj to Bohemia from the saddle of your bicycle • Savor hearty Czech cuisine such as goulash, roast and dumplings under the painted gables of the World Heritage village of Holašovice • Castles abound on our bike route, from ornate Hluboká Castle to the pastel-painted tower of Krumlov Hrad • Hop in a sturdy raft and follow the winding Vltava River through pastoral countryside, with a few thrills along the way • Wander the World Heritage site of Český Krumlov, one of Europe’s most gorgeously preserved medieval cities • Adults are invited to an informal Q&A on Czech history while youngsters take on kids-only adventures like disc golf, a mirror maze and more.
Nights 1-2
Comprised of three historic buildings, this lovely inn is ideally located on the town's main square.
Day 3
Travel to the Mostviertel, Austria’s so-called Cider Quarter and off-the-tourist-track border district, where orchards and woods alternate with a patchwork of fields • Take in views that seem to go on forever as you hike the ridge of the Sonntagberg • Taste the local bounty when a trailside eatery serves up Austrian homestyle recipes • Kids hone their skills at the bowling alley before families are treated to a delightful schuhplattler (traditional dance performance).

Days 4-6
Welcome to the Wachau, a majestic valley lined by vineyards and centered on the wide Danube • Check out the mountaintop views from thousand-year-old Melk Abbey, which inspired Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose • Follow the river on the car-free Danube Bike Path, a cyclist's paradise • Hike to the intriguing ruins of the castle where King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned • Take to the Danube’s waters for some summer watersports • Adults taste local wines and Wieser (apricot spirits) while kids get to test their own palates with a juicy apricot tasting • Say farewell to your traveling companions in Vienna, Austria’s dynamic capital, a great place to extend your vacation.
