We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Visitors to the Swiss Alps can expect a variety of conditions. During the summer, while warm sunny days are the norm, keep in mind that mountain weather is always variable, with the possibility of rain and even snowfall along our routes. From October onward, snow-covered landscapes, icy trails and temperatures that dip below freezing are more of a possibility. We’ve specially designed our late fall departures around routes which are accessible year-round, some of which differ from our summer activities.
For the best riding in Switzerland, we’ve chosen a combination of small quiet roads and some unpaved bike paths with short stretches of limited van support. There are also some sections of urban cycling on busier roads at the end of most rides; you can always hop in the shuttle to skip these.
While the hotels on this trip offer outstanding service and amenities, please note that they are not equipped with air-conditioning and guest rooms can occasionally become warm during peak temperatures.

Our trip was a trip of a lifetime. Incredible!
Our trip was superb in every way. Our leaders were so wonderful, helpful, adaptable, knowledgeable and friendly. Our bike routes were beautiful and fun .Our hikes lead us to incredible sights. Our accommodations were first class and the food was delicious.
Amazing trip! Highly recommend!
If you love mountains, lakes and nature, Switzerland's Berner Oberland area is for you. Backroads has selected terrific hiking trails with beautiful vistas, and great biking routes through picturesque valleys and pastures. Add to that the wonderful guides who made everything so easy -- from navigating routes to taking care of the bikes to sharing interesting information about the area -- they were a great part of the trip. One of the best trips we've ever taken -- for the beauty of the country, the guides, the other travelers in the group, 2 of the 3 hotels were amazing, and the ease of logistics. We didn't have to worry about a thing, which made it feel like a vacation.

Switzerland Hiking and Biking was Amazing!
Everything far exceeded our expectations - the hotels, meals, leaders, hikes, rides! Our fellow travelers felt like family at the end of our week together. The couples/friends/solo option was perfect for me and my 19 year old daughter. The experience was energizing and fulfilling, in every way!

Fantastic Switzerland Adventure! Great Leaders!
Our Backroads leaders really made the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable trip. Jolene and India were a great team and looked out for me on all the hiking and biking activities. I was challenged by the altitude of the Swiss Alps, as I expected, and the leaders took this into consideration and advised me throughout. The e-bikes that Backroads provide are truly first class, easy to operate and fun! The accommodations and food were exceptional. I can't wait for my next Backroads experience!

Beyond our expectations!
Every aspect of our trip was perfect! From our incredible leaders (Jess, Marcin, and Danil) to the premier hotels and our biking/hiking routes to the breathtaking scenery at every turn to the behind-the-scenes organization of each day to meeting the most amazing, fun and interesting people in our group…We could not have asked for a more amazing experience!! Thank you Backroads!
Magnificent biking through Swiss Villages
We had the best time hiking, biking and kayaking through Switzerland. Biking through small Swiss villages that we never would have discovered on our own was phenomenal. We got to take ferries, trains, gondolas to get us to our locations which was so fun. The hiking was challenging but with options for everyone, the guides were accommodating and so lovely, the food was fantastic (especially the breakfasts) and our 17 and 13 year old children loved having new friends to do it all with. We loved our time in Switzerland!
Two summers in a row of great trips and a happy teen
Switzerland is incredibly beautiful and easy to travel. In the secret sauce is the selection, training and retention of the trip leaders who work incredibly hard but make it seem easy.. My 14 year old daughter will never forget this trip.
Awesome Trip with Beautiful Scenery!
My husband, son (12 years old), and I did the Switzerland Family Multi-Adventure trip in June 2023. We loved this trip! As it always been our experience with Backroads, the guides were excellent. We really enjoyed the various activities, and we felt like we got a lot out of the vacation. There were beautiful hikes, lovely bike rides through small Swiss towns, ferry rides, train rides, and kids activities. The hikes and bike rides start in one location and finish in another. Logistically, the itinerary would be hard to do on your own.

The best money and time spent for an active family
The leaders are truly amazing people. The activities were perfect for my entire family. We will all talk about this trip for our lifetime.

Switzerland is all that and more if you want to be challenge
The views on the routes bring tears to your eyes when you take a moment to realize how amazing they are....
