  • Pedal Savannah's waterfront en route to the Wormsloe Plantation, where 400 stately oaks grace the entrance
  • Indulge in award-winning cuisine at Peninsula Grill in Charleston and Elizabeth on 37th in Savannah
  • Paddle the quiet waters of the ACE Basin, keeping an eye out for local birds like cormorants and eagles

Incredible trip made us fall in love with the South!

Comments about Charleston to Savannah Multi-Adventure Tour:

This was our first trip to the South and I can't think of a better way to experience an area so rich in beauty and history (and incredible food!). It was great to relinquish the planning part of a vacation and trust that Backroads had it covered. From the delicious food to the stunning views to our enthusiastic trip leaders, the trip was dialed.

The hotels and food exuded southern comfort at its finest and our trip leaders made us feel pampered. I'd say the sport of eating rivaled the sport of activity on this trip and we can't decide which we liked more! We really enjoyed the trip activities but also appreciated having some down time to explore the beautiful places we visited. Our trip leaders were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the region and really made the area come alive for us. There's an old saying that "people make a place" and our trip leaders truly made this a one-of-a-kind experience for us.

Why Travel with Backroads in South Carolina and Georgia

Our Deep South Is Deeper

The South is filled with gifted storytellers, and after 20 years of actively exploring the region, we can introduce you to engaging local historians and all-around colorful characters who bring the region's complex past – and present – to life. We also take you deeper into the nature – for instance, at the beautiful ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge, where you explore a flooded cypress forest by boardwalk, then slip into a kayak for an even more up-close experience.

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our South Carolina and Georgia trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

The Best Leaders in South Carolina and Georgia

Backroads has the best-qualified people to lead your trip in South Carolina and Georgia, and our guests back that up, rating our Trip Leaders an average of 9.75 out of 10 for all-around quality of performance. Get the facts (and no fluff) on how we recruit and develop the very best people for your trip.

We Invented the Multi-Adventure Trip

After more than 30 years of creating Backroads Multi-Adventures, our trip designers know how to blend the perfect balance of biking and hiking with other activities to showcase the best of a region. And then they arrange the seamless transitions that would be so hard to orchestrate on your own—adding dimensions to your trip that are exciting, inspiring and just plain fun.

A Second Van When You Need It

Backroads is the only active travel company providing two support vans in South Carolina and Georgia—because we know it's essential to ensure a truly great travel experience. It doubles our ability to be there when you need us to offer hydration, lighten your load or give you a lift if it's time to take a break. Read more on why two vans make all the difference.

We Live in the Neighborhood

Our Trip Leaders in South Carolina and Georgia live in the area and are deeply engaged in their communities, giving them unique inside knowledge they're happy to share in making your experience that much richer. They'll introduce you to people, customs and parts of town you'd likely never encounter on your own—and teach you a few local phrases to help break the ice.

Signature Backroads Picnics

Guests rave about our picnic spreads. Enjoy a welcome break in a scenic spot, or a quick refuel stop if you don't want to lose momentum. And because we have two vans, one can host lunch while the other is out providing support along the route.

Our Superb Bikes Included

A great bike is obviously critical for a great multi-adventure trip; you don't want to gamble on one that's been sourced locally to trim costs. This trip features our acclaimed Backroads Custom Titanium bikes, expertly tuned and fitted, and included in your trip price. Learn why our titanium bikes are ideal for most riders.

Your Trip Will Run. Period.

Under our Book with Confidence policy, your Backroads trip will run even for one or two people (or a family of three or four), subject to a nominal extra fee. Or transfer to another trip, and we'll give you a credit. It's all part of our trademark commitment to treating guests with integrity, transparency and total accountability. Read all the details.

We Were Born Here (in 1979)

Backroads has been inviting active travelers to explore our own backyard since Jimmy Carter was in the White House. We offer more trips than anyone else in South Carolina and Georgia, and we've spent more years finding the best ones. What keeps it real is having a consistent vision and the same passionately committed leadership for nearly four decades.

Quality You Can Measure

Since 1979, Backroads Founder and President Tom Hale has shown that staying #1 means constantly evaluating our performance using the best possible source of information: our guests. As we systematically analyze your feedback on our trip consultants, leaders, hotels, meals and on-trip activities, we never stop working to make a great company even better.
