Itinerary

Day 1
Journey to the wild beauty of Acadia National Park, the first national park established east of the Mississippi River • Walk along the park’s historic carriage roads, a scenic network of gravel byways built by John D. Rockefeller and closed to cars • Follow the trails around Jordan Pond, with views of the iconic twin Bubble Mountains • Climb South Bubble Mountain and see Balance Rock, a massive glacier erratic remarkable for its precarious placement on the mountain’s edge • For more miles, ascend Penobscot Mountain and take in sweeping views of Frenchman Bay and the outer islands • Kick back at Terramor Outdoor Resort, a basecamp in the woods with stylish canvas tents surrounded by the peaceful stillness of Maine woods.

Nights 1-3
This elevated glamping retreat just outside Acadia National Park features canvas tents with en suite bathrooms and private decks as well as a central lodge where you can gather by the fire, enjoy a drink and take in the star-filled sky. (pool, spa)

Day 2
Explore Mount Desert Island, cycling beneath spruce and fir trees and along the shores of Somes Sound • Experience Acadia’s historic carriage roads from a new perspective—on bike—riding over stone bridges and passing Eagle Lake and Jordan Pond • Trade handlebars for paddles and kayak in Bar Harbor, admiring scenes of lobster boats, sailboats and maybe even a curious seal.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
At Terramor, we stay in large canvas-walled platform tents. Each is outfitted with a king-size bed including linens, ceiling fans and heaters, and an en suite bathroom. While the many amenities make for an elevated glamping experience, the tents do not have air-conditioning.
Our family tents include a second room with a bunkbed—double on the bottom and twin on the top. Each tent has its own screened porch and private fire pit. The property has limited cell reception, but does have electricity & WiFi, including in the tents. With canvas walls and doors, sounds may carry from nearby tents and chirping crickets. Each tent has its own noise machine, and we suggest packing earplugs.
