Itinerary
Days 1-2
Welcome to Dubrovnik, whose tiled roofs, ornate towers and medieval walls have earned it the nickname “Pearl of the Adriatic” • Head to the wine country that’s home to California Zinfandel’s closest ancestor and hop on your bike to pedal between vineyards and through sleepy coastal villages • Stay in the heart of the Dubrovnik Riviera • Board a private boat to sleepy Lopud Island, where you stroll past the mansions of 16th-century sea captains • Dine at the 400-year-old home of local friends in a village near Dubrovnik • Dip in the crystal-blue water of one of the Adriatic’s only sandy beaches.
Nights 1-2
Located just outside the old town gates with plentiful amenities and a history of entertaining dignitaries and celebrities. (pool)

Days 3-6
Cycle through the mountain-rimmed bowl of the Konavle Valley and across the border into Montenegro • Hike a ridgeline high above the Bay of Kotor • Stroll the lanes of crumbling Kotor, an ancient city stuffed between water and cliffs that’s often described as Dubrovnik’s wilder little sibling • Climb to the heights of towering Lovćen National Park for see-forever views stretching clear across this tiny country • Bid farewell to the Bay of Kotor on a kayaking excursion to Our Lady of the Rocks Island.
Nights 3-5
This luxe modern resort rich in amenities occupies a dreamy, sleepy stretch of beachfront along the Bay of Kotor, with stunning views across the water to rocky peaks on the other side. (pool, spa)

Our hiking routes are on hilly terrain with rocky uneven surfaces, occasionally exposed to steep drops.
Our biking routes are also consistently hilly; you can generally expect several one- to three-mile climbs followed by several one- to three-mile descents. Though we’ve selected many of the least-trafficked routes of road in the regions we visit, know that most of our rides are on small roads shared with cars. You should be comfortable with letting cars pass, which—this being the Balkans—they will do faster and closer than you may be used to!
Both our rides and our hikes have plenty of exposed sections with no shade. The hot sun of the region can add an additional level of challenge to physical activity.

To bring you to our favorite parts of Croatia and Montenegro, we make liberal use of shuttles on this trip. You can expect to spend at least a half hour in the shuttle on each day, with three out of the six days of our trip having shuttles of two hours or more. Also know that longer delays are possible when crossing the border between Croatia & Montenegro.
