Days 4-6
Hello again, Vennbahn! Today our journey continues, as we pedal north to the border between Belgium and the Netherlands along our favorite tree-lined bike path • Mazy ribbons of canals pattern the countryside as it begins to transform to more open agricultural lowlands • Spin through small towns shaped by centuries of trade, culture and European history • Arrive at our hotel, a grand historic estate set among gardens and rolling parkland • Explore and enjoy dinner on your own in Maastricht, a premier culinary destination offering everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to “brown cafés,” (traditional pubs) • Take on the hills on a loop ride from the hotel and see where the elite Amstel Gold Race takes place • Grab a cup of coffee at the Shimano Experience Center and find out more about one of the most recognizable cycling brands in the world • Our final route leads you on a short spin through the lush countryside surrounding the hotel.

We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
These countries are famous for their love of bikes and their amazing network of bike paths. Since these paths are car-free, there are stretches of limited van support, although you’ll still be supported by leaders on bikes. Although most of the paths are smooth and paved, there are some short sections of gravel, cobblestone and hard-packed dirt.
