We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Visitors to Provence will encounter lavender in various forms—including bundles of dried lavender in the markets and lavender oil used in the many bath and body products you can find in the shops throughout Provence. If you want to see lavender blooming in the fields, be sure to time your visit around peak lavender season. While the exact bloom is a bit hard to predict, lavender is usually blooming from late June through early August.

Amazing countryside, flowers, woods, and farms
The Perfect weather made this wonderful trip even better. First time using an e-bike but certainly not the last . Made the trip very doable and fun. Amazing accommodations, fun tours and interesting sites with stops in ancient towns , stops for snacks along the way and coffee in towns and villages makes the days fly by.

Blown away in Provence
First BackRoads experience but definitely not our last. Provence in October is spectacular and our leaders made the most of it. Routes took us through idyllic villages and countryside, and made us work hard enough to really appreciate the comforts at the end of the day. Leaders were exceptional — super knowledgeable, friendly and always ready to laugh. Fabulous experience for our 25th anniversary!

Excellent Trip
Wonderful leaders. Shout out to Maya and Felipe, Jon, and Clementine! Loved the rides, the lavender, the goat farm, and the lavender farm. The accommodations and food were excellent. Beautiful weather. Loved the scenery and the history. Excellent trip. One of our favorites so far. Love Backroads. Attention to every detail. We felt very supported.
Wonderful way to see Provence!
Biking is the perfect way to see and experience the beauty of Provence, especially the magnificent views of the mountains, valleys and lavender fields. Our Backroads leaders were excellent. We also stayed a two amazing resorts.
A Secret Worth Sharing
The Backroads Secret Provence trip was spectacular. The company strives to make it more of an experience instead of a simple trip and it shows. The region is breathtakingly beautiful and rustic. The bike routes are diverse, challenging, and thoughtful. There are not many cars in the area, and we were able to avoid what little traffic there was. The itinerary is flexible so I could explore at my own pace and the support van was always nearby if I needed to refuel or gain inspiration to climb the next big hill. There are definitely some challenging climbs because most of the villages are perched atop mountains, but my group was able to power through. Electronic Bikes (eBikes) are available too, for bikers who want a helpful assist. The Premiere hotels were incredible and quite different from each other. They are all Relais & Chateaux members with luxurious accomodations and delightful breakfast feasts, but otherwise they were each distinct and charming in their own way. The BEST part of the trip was the leaders! They were funny, inspiring, personable, and completely dedicated to exceeding our expectations. Backroads sets itself apart with its leaders and I would hesitate to use another company for fear that the leaders simply would not measure up. Overall, I would highly recommend the Secret Provence trip without hesitation for people who seek a fun and active experience in a special part of the world.
Fulfilled a Bucket List Dream!
My Provence biking dream trip was made possible by Backroads. Cycling through fields of lavender, beautiful and quaint towns in France and then staying in 5 star hotels with Micheline chefs for our cooks was more then I could have asked for. With the experience of our well trained, knowledgeable and fun leaders I felt perfectly safe and taken care of the entire week. This is an excellent trip with friends (which is how we went), or with family members of most ages. This is the BEST trip and the only way to see beautiful Provence!

Truly Secret Locations!
Terrific leaders, beautiful scenery and small villages, moderate to challenging riding and luxurious and exquisite accommodations!
Incredible trip
What a great time. Beautiful biking mostly on quite roads, beautiful lavender and sage, great guides and incredible hotels and meals. My daughter and I enjoyed this tremendously

The best!
This trip was absolutely incredible. The biking routes were picturesque, remote, and with very little car traffic. The lavender was in full bloom the second week of July. Our leaders were fantastic.

Biking through lavender fields
Secret Provence bike tour is one of the most beautiful and rewarding trips we had done. Even though it was rather challenging for tandem biking, which was our choice, it was 100% worth it. The natural beauty of the area, the atmosphere, spectacular accommodations and food, and spending time with a fun group of people and wonderful Backroads leaders made it a most memorable experience.
