Fantastic trip to a wonderful place in France
My wife and I took our first backroads trip and we will come back for more. The routes took us through the country side of southern France. Our Leaders were exceptional. Hotels and food outstanding.
Incredible Trip!
We've been on 6 Backroads trips and this one ranks #1! Loved everything about the trip! All the routes provided breathtaking stunning scenery. Truly a backroads off-the-beaten path routes in the stunning scenery of Provence and small villages. The accommodations were fabulous and decadent. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly and fun to be with. Thank God for e-bikes to help navigate the longer routes for incredible sights and views. The French food was fabulously delicious. The last day in St. Tropez & Cannes is over-the-top luxurious. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat!
Epic Journey from Provence to the French Riviera
Where do I even begin? Our bike trip from Provence to the French Riviera was nothing short of extraordinary. With friends (those we came with, and the new ones we made on this trip), we cruised through vineyards on lovely roads, and then the Mediterranean greeted us as we descended into the beauty of the Riviera. But it wasn't just the scenery that made this trip unforgettable—it was our trip leaders Adrian and Joe. They weren't just amazing; they were brilliant, hilarious, and felt more like friends than trip leaders. From perfectly timed jokes to insights about the regions we passed through, they added a layer of fun and magic to every moment. They were endlessly patient, extraordinary problem solvers, were always ready with a helping hand and encouraging words. They are LEGENDS. We also greatly appreciated the support crew, Hannah and Bastian— who were always there with a smile, making sure our bikes were ready and safe. I know they worked tirelessly for hours too, though it was often behind the scenes (part of the magic!) And the biking? Amazing with lots of options to fit one's goals. Every turn revealed another postcard-worthy view. Mostly smooth roads with little traffic with fun descents that made me smile from ear to ear every day. And the hotels? Stunning. We stayed in luxurious yet charming properties- the epitome of elegance, each one more breathtaking than the last. Breakfast buffets each morning at these beautiful hotels were over the top with endless choices. The lunches and dinners were always celebrations of local flavors and were divine. In short, this was more than a bike trip——Perfectly planned, brilliantly executed, and absolutely unforgettable. If you're considering this trip, stop thinking and just go. You'll thank yourself a million times over.
I had high expectations-- this trip exceeded it!
My husband and I had heard a lot of great things about Backroads so our expectations were high-- and we were blown away but how much fun it was! The food, the hotels, the routes--- all spectacular. And what took it all to an 11-- the leaders. Each morning they go over the routes, what to expect, and teach some fun French phrases (the cool kids flip words-- so Cimer for merci). You fill up on water and snacks for the route while they help you with your bike and then they zip back and forth while you are riding. I took the hardest routes (in July-- hot!) and they would show up with cold water/snacks and the most perfect time (Backroads Magic!) and play music. It makes wine/dinner at the end of the day that much sweeter! My husband and I are both strong cyclists and we got the road bikes (non-carbon)-- totally impressed by how good they were. And the staff makes sure that they are perfectly tuned up. This was our first trip, but it definitely will not be our last!
think of any positive superlative, and attach here
Referred by many friends, all of whom were unanimously positive of their experience. I've tried a few times to write a simple review, but wound up gushing. Reviewing the videos that Backroads has prepared, its all true. To all who helped making this trip so fabulous, including the home staff, trainers, and our tremendously skilled, prepared, creative, and attentive, humorous, and pampering leaders - Sante'! , Rose' every day.
Backroads is back in France!
We just returned from our first post-Covid trip abroad and it was amazing. I'm pleased to report that Backroads hasn't missed a beat and provided outstanding leaders, logistics, hotels and rides to make Provence the best Backroads trip we've been on yet. As an added bonus, everywhere we went people told us how excited they were to have Americans visiting France again. Even in Paris! It was easy to get in to France, the vaccination rates are now higher than the US and it was so much fun to be on a Backroads trip again. We've got another Backroads trip to Portugal planned for the Fall as it's clear this is a great time to visit Europe.

By every measure, Spectacular!
This was our 5th BR trip and as with the other trips, it was incredible. Beyond beautiful scenery, food, accommodations. Going from the beauty and relative quiet splendor of Provence, to the excitement and thrills of the French Riviera made this trip truly unique. The boat trip from St Tropez to Cannes was so fabulously fun! Our trip leaders (Thibault, Jessica and Jade) were extraordinary.
Thee best way to travel!!
The handle everything and you will not be disappointed!!
Bucket List trip!
This was my "bucket list" trip. It's been at the top of my list ever since I took a Backroads trip to Wine country, CA in the late 1990's. I was so excited to be able to do this trip. It far exceeded any expectations that I had. (and trust me, I had pretty high expectations after my first Backroads trip!!!). Every detail was so well thought out. The schedule, scenery, riding and dining experiences were spectacular and unforgettable.
Provence to the French Riviera was incredible.
Food, lodging, guides all over the top. Terrain challenging but the guides accommodated all levels at tough spots. Scenery and small villages where we would stop for cafe and lunch authentic French Provence region. Exceeded our expectations. Scott and Laurent and Mayvha were awesome!! Must do.
