Itinerary
Day 1
Follow a kid-friendly route dedicated mostly to cyclists • Ride mountain trails and follow the curves of a converted railway path through larch and fir forests • Pedal to Cortina d’Ampezzo, a posh resort town surrounded by soaring peaks and lined with shops and cafés • Take in the scene from the terrace of our stylish mountain hideaway.
Night 1
This vibrant and recently renovated century-old landmark in the heart of Cortina has attracted dignitaries and glamorous icons, from Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt to Charlton Heston and Sofia Loren. (pool, spa)

Days 2-3
Soar above the trees on a chairlift to Rifugio Scoiattoli • Take in awe-inspiring views of the Cinque Torri, a group of iconic stone pinnacles • History buffs rejoice! Our guided walk near Passo di Falzarego reveals World War I bunkers and trenches, and an open-air museum • Kids learn the basics of rock climbing with an expert mountaineer • Hike through Val Badia’s conifer forests and scenic Ladin villages • Admire ancient glaciers and lofty rock towers • Kids set out on an exhilarating ropes course in Colfosco before a festive pizza dinner • Adults sit down to a gourmet meal and an exclusive wine tasting in our hotel’s wine cellar.
Nights 2-3

Days 4-6

This trip has an activity level range of 1-3
Hiking terrain includes dirt paths through alpine meadows, gravel access roads and rocky mountain trails with steep ascents and descents, uneven terrain and occasional narrow exposed sections. Gondolas are used where possible to access alpine hiking.
Biking routes follow both paved and hard-packed gravel bike paths. Terrain is mostly level to rolling, with a few short steep uphills and downhills on gravel (some guests choose to walk their bikes here).
Kid-friendly routes are shorter with some steep up and downhills, and alternate kids’ activities are available on days with longer rides. Some sections are on unpaved roads and involve transporting bikes via gondola, so trailer bikes and Burley Cub trailers are not possible. Kids should be comfortable riding uphill, controlling speed downhill and navigating loose dirt and bumpy terrain. Families with younger kids can always skip the ride and boost ahead.

Our bike routes on this tour are a bit different than those found on a typical Backroads trip. They consist of mixed terrain, including some paved roads and bike path, as well as unpaved roads, gravel paths and trail. Additionally, due to the mountainous character of the Dolomites region, some rides on this trip may contain short and steep ascents and descents, which can make the routes feel more challenging than the mileage suggests. To accommodate riding in this environment, we use a different fleet of bikes created specifically for cycling on variable surfaces.
