Parma to Verona Family Bike Tour – Older Teens & 20s

Parma's Cuisine, Mantua's History & Verona's Wine

  • Enjoy meandering rides on quiet one-lane roads through the winding northern Italian countryside
  • Learn to make fresh tortelli alle erbette and other secrets of Italian cuisine in a private chef-driven cooking class
  • Visit fascinating World Heritage towns like Sabbioneta, Mantua and Verona—the last immortalized by Shakespeare
  • Taste wonderful regional wines—including amarone, Bardolino and Valpolicella—right in their places of origin

This trip is like a slice of rich, authentic parmesan cheese. Lovingly crafted. Filled with local flavor. With ingredients that will make the whole family smile. Like castles and palaces. Idyllic villages and views of the Alps. All beautifully blended into a landscape of rivers, farmland and vineyards. Delicious!

Days 5-6 Follow the Adige River to the foot of the Alps | Relax over lunch at a cantina near the shores of Lake Garda | Bike through renowned Valpolicella vineyards, where world-famous amarone is produced.

I can't recommend this trip enough. Our group size was perfect. Small enough that you felt like you developed a personal relationship with the guides and large enough to have a mix of personalities that added to the fun. Our group size was 10 total. All of the young adults were around the same age which made it really fun for me. A huge reason this trip was as memorable as it was was because of our guides. They were both from Italy, had so much personality and knowledge to really add to our trip. They were intuitive to the needs of the group and NEVER missed a beat. You get to see a part of Italy that so few get to see. It's charming and doesn't feel like you are getting shuttled from one tourist spot to the next. It was authentic as can be. The highlights for me were staying in a 1400s castle for two nights, the guided tour of the town of Mantova, lunch at a winery and cycling through tiny towns I'd never visit on my own.

Traffic

Our exploration of Parma and the Po River basin traverses Italy's most productive agricultural region. Most routes travel on tranquil farm roads but, on occasion, you can expect to encounter increased traffic as we pass through larger towns that produce gastronomic delights such as prosciutto di Parma and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. Of course, the van is nearby if you want a lift.
