My first Backroads trip was a wonderful experience! Leaders Dean, Logan and GianLuca were energetic, knowledgeable, and perfect hosts. They anticipated every need and responded quickly and pleasantly. The scenery, hotels, meals and biking equipment exceeded expectations. I hope to take another trip soon!

What a wonderful experience. This was my first backroads trip and it set the bar high for future trips. We had a small group so we got to know each other very fast. Our leaders were enthusiastic, funny and flexible which was especially important since the first few days had terrible weather. The trip ended at a premiere hotel and it was well worth the wait. What a beautiful area to end the trip on. Highly recommend this one for anyone looking for fairly flat routes and the best food you'll ever eat!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Parma to Verona trip May 2023

What a great trip! Trip leaders were awesome - anything you needed, they were on top of! Plenty of food at every meal and rest stop. Bikes in great condition. Out of the 22 guests, only 6 on road bikes. The upgraded Wahoo devices were great. We made a few wrong turns but immediately figured it out. My husband got a flat one day and they came to fix it almost immediately. Loved the daily options of mileage one could do. Lots of farms, castles, canals, and vineyards to cycle past. Definitely a 10 out of 10, but note the water bottles provided have no insulation. I bring my own Polar bottle and fill it with ice at the hotel each morning. There were definitely a bit of trafficked roads which I wasn't expecting. Mostly in Mantua. Some of the streets were gravelly (not quite off-road riding, but not smooth). I still rate this a 10 out of 10!

Great expectations - and the reality exceeded the hype

Prior to booking my first Backroads trip, I had heard from family, friends and complete strangers about what a great traveling experience Backroads provides. So choosing Backroads was easy, but choosing my specific itinerary was difficult, with so many great trips on offer! I suspect I could not go wrong with any. My Backroads leaders were phenomenal, from seamlessly handling logistics and personal requests to providing knowledgeable commentary on places of interest, from outlining each day's activities in the most entertaining way to describing all the types of coffee drinks one could order at a cafe, and from offering multiple cycling choices each day to making each guest feel cared for in a very individualized way. All done with a joy and an enthusiasm that was infectious! I could not have imagined a better team. The optional afternoon activities, including a pasta making class, a tour of a Parmigiano Reggiano operation (my personal favorite!), a wine tasting, and tours of UNESCO World Heritage sites, were a huge surprise bonus in a trip I thought would be focused only on cycling. The group of fellow travelers was also a surprising treat - often in group tours I feel fortunate to enjoy one or two other participants, but this group was, to a person, interesting and entertaining, making group dinners and other activities very enjoyable. I now understand what family, friends, and strangers were raving about and will rave myself at every opportunity!

Our trip leaders planned everything to perfection. They anticipated our every need from extra sunscreen to electrolyte drink mix. There was no way I would have been able to arrange rides like this on my own. Just truly beautiful.

The best experience - starting with our guides!

Starting on a cold, rainy day, our leaders Peppe, Mattia and Berta quickly made us feel at ease and ready for whatever weather the day was going to throw at us. These folks went above and beyond each day to make sure that we had fun and experienced the people, food and culture of Emiglia Romagna. These are my kind of people! The rides were stunningly beautiful, the accommodations luxurious and welcoming, and the dining was farm fresh, healthy, and oh so delicious. We cannot wait for our next BackRoads trip, and hope to be able to ride again with our new friends Peppe Esposto and Mattia Bonanome. Ciao!

This was our first Backroads trip and our first adventure trip of any kind. My husband and I were going in blind, not knowing what to expect. This trip exceeded all expectations! Our crew was fabulous, our accommodations were perfect, the food was outstanding and our bike routes were beautiful. We were able to see parts of Italy we never would have visited on our own. From the coffee stops and education, to the lunches, dinners and wine tastings, all were top notch! We cannot wait to venture out again with Backroads!
