Activity Level: 1-2
Our Dolce Tempo e-biking activities allow you to leisurely explore local hidden gems and to get away from the crowds, experiencing the essence of your location on your own terms and at your own pace. Easier than our other trips, but still wonderfully active, route options typically include 2-4 hours of e-biking per day. Our custom electric-assist bikes allow you to pedal effortlessly. Your trip is fully supported with dedicated Trip Leaders, vans, meticulously selected routes and downloadable GPS files available for use on your own device.
Route notes
The e-biking terrain on this trip ranges from flat to moderately rolling. Most of the hills are not especially steep but they are numerous, and you'll encounter them on every route (our e-bikes offer the perfect boost!). And while we avoid car traffic by traveling along bike paths during portions of our routes, these paths are popular with other cyclists. The road quality is variable in both countries, so some sections may be bumpy.

Straight talk
We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Accommodations
On this trip we spend two nights at the historic Hotel Ruže, a former Jesuit monastery from the 16th century, and two nights at Schloss Durnstein, a 17th-century castle. Guest rooms in these hotels are clean and comfortable, but smaller and simpler than the typical Backroads standard. We've chosen these properties because of their ideal locations and unique historic character.
Shuttles
To bring you to our favorite parts of the Czech Republic and Austria, we make liberal use of shuttles on this trip. So although you'll see the inside of the Backroads van for an hour or so on most days, consider it an opportunity to view some spectacular scenery while resting your legs in preparation for your next ride.
