Days 2-3 Follow part of Offa's Dyke Path National Trail, tracing an 8th-century earthen ditch built at the command of King Offa of Mercia | Enter the rugged sandstone Black Mountains, dotted with grass and heather | Grand vistas of the valley below unfold before you: farmland, rural hamlets and perhaps glimpses of soaring birds of prey and Welsh mountain ponies | On the border with England, arrive at Hay-on-Wye, the town of books | Ascend through a shallow valley to find stunning views of the Fforest Fawr | Climb to Llyn y Fan Fawr, an enchanting lake created by an ancient glacier.
Day 4 Welcome to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, Britain's most breathtaking coastline, complete with craggy cliffs, sheltered coves, twisting estuaries and expansive beaches | From Abercastle's harbor—filled with colorful fishing boats—follow an undulating path over rolling wildflower-strewn terrain | A shimmering seascape provides the backdrop for impressive rock formations and old mill ruins | Rub elbows with locals in the tiny fishing port of Porthgain | Witness the region's industrial heritage at the dramatic sheer cliffs of Abereiddy's Blue Lagoon, a former slate quarry.
Days 5-6 Starting at scenic Whitesands Bay beach, beloved by surfers, head up to an overlook for views of Ramsey Island and to perhaps spot porpoises below | Walk along the coast to the picture-perfect fishing village of Solva | Explore the tiny city of St. David's, known for its cathedral dating to the 6th century.
