Canadian Rockies Family Multi-Adventure Camping Tour – Teens & Younger Siblings

Banff & Yoho's Epic National Parks

  • Behold awesome views of Mount Rundle, Cascade Mountain and dramatically eroded sandstone hoodoos
  • Scramble up rock faces—kids enjoy a fun-filled morning rock climbing with expert guides
  • Raft white-water rapids on the Kicking Horse River
  • Watch for deer, elk and black bears

Check out those giant deer... Wait—they're elk? What makes the lake so blue? Doesn't even look like real water. There's a bald eagle in that tree. Just saw a marmot, too. I think I see that mountain we climbed yesterday. We're going rafting tomorrow, right? That waterfall is the tallest thing I've ever seen! This is the best vacation ever.

Canadian Rockies Multisport Map

Day 1 Awesome views of Mount Rundle and Cascade Mountain are yours to admire as you bike through Banff to Lake Minnewanka | Not ready to stop? Pedal to Johnston Canyon and hike to a series of stunning waterfalls before arriving at your campsite, where your family's cozy tents and gourmet camp cuisine await.

Day 2 Explore Kootenay National Park on foot | Witness a vast wildfire burn area while keeping an eye out for new-growth forest with pink fireweed juxtaposed against yellow columbine | Venture into a hanging valley for a view of extraordinary Stanley Glacier | Hike a family-friendly route through a beautiful canyon and stand in awe of the gorgeous upper and lower waterfalls.

Day 3 There's nothing like a morning spin amid towering peaks, virgin forests and the blue-green Bow River | Keep your eye on the forest for elk, bighorn sheep, mule deer and black bears as you pedal rolling hills to the hamlet of Lake Louise | Massive Mount Temple, with its glistening hanging glacier and epic cliff faces, is truly awe inspiring | Visit Moraine Lake and walk through a glacially carved valley beneath soaring mountains to Consolation Lake | Kids join leaders for a special night out while adults relax and dine at our idyllic campsite.

Days 4-6 Rafting on the Kicking Horse River—a splashing good time with a taste of white-water thrills! | View the reflection of Mount Victoria in the shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Louise | The younger crowd teams up with a local guide for a rock climbing lesson while grown-ups embark on a classic Rockies trek to the historic Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse | Dig into a farewell lunch before returning to Banff.

Great biking, hiking, rafting and climbing. Met interesting people and connected with amazing Backroads leaders.

Tents & Sleeping Essentials

Our spacious dome tents comfortably accommodate two adults plus luggage. On Family Trips we provide two adjacent tents for parents and children. Cots with an extra-thick inflatable sleeping pad, sleeping bag and sleep sheet are all provided. Backroads does not supply pillows, so please bring your own. No lighting is provided in your tent, so a small flashlight is essential.

Restroom Facilities

Restroom facilities are available at each campground. The restroom floors can be wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops! We also recommend bringing a hanging toiletry bag since space is limited and surfaces are wet. Be advised that outlets and mirrors are few. Backroads does not supply towels, so please be sure to pack your own.

We Know Our Neighbours Well

Backroads first headed up to Canada in 1980, when an older Trudeau was prime minister, and we've been exploring its spectacular landscapes ever since. Our leaders are Canadian and many are proud to make their homes in Canadian Rockies—where we offer more trips than any other active travel company and have spent many more years finding the best ones.

We Invented the Multisport Trip

After 30 years of creating Backroads Multisport Adventures, our trip designers know how to blend the perfect balance of biking and hiking with other activities to showcase the best of a region. And then they arrange the seamless transitions that would be so hard to orchestrate on your own—adding dimensions to your trip that are exciting, inspiring and just plain fun.

We Live in the Neighborhood

Our Trip Leaders in Canadian Rockies live in the area and are deeply engaged in their communities, giving them unique inside knowledge they're happy to share in making your experience that much richer. They'll introduce you to people, customs and parts of town you'd likely never encounter on your own—and teach you a few local phrases to help break the ice.

We've Set the Standard

For nearly four decades we've worked to earn and maintain our right to call Backroads the world's #1 active travel company. In pursuing that vision on behalf of our guests, we believe we've set the standard for our industry—captured in the Backroads Quality Guide, which clearly sets out the benchmarks of excellence, choice and support that we live by
