We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
We ordinarily staff our trips with three leaders: two leaders out on the trail offering support—allowing everyone to have the experience they want, whether it’s an easygoing interpretative walk or a rigorous hike—while the third leader moves the van from trailhead to trail end. This trip is a little different in that our routes are a combination of loop hikes and out-and-back trails that begin and end in the same location. This means that you’ll still have the same two leaders providing excellent trail support without the need for a third leader to move the van. Occasionally we also hike with local guides, allowing us to offer even more support options on these routes.
The historic hotels on this trip offer proximity to our favorite hikes and fantastic views. Guest rooms are clean and comfortable but simpler and smaller than the typical Backroads standard. Also, due to the remote locations of our properties, dinners on this trip tend to be either buffet-style or a set or limited-choice menu.
The combination of Norway’s many waterfalls, steep mountains, vibrant green landscapes, warm ocean currents and deep fjords makes this country unlike any other. Norway’s climate can be as surprising as its terrain, with weather patterns and microclimates that may bring sun, wind, fog, sleet and rain in the same day (or hour!). Or it could rain all day, every day. Please be sure to bring warm layers and waterproof gear for each day of the trip. In addition, the fluctuating weather may result in ferry or mid-trip itinerary changes, but your Backroads Leaders are always prepared to make necessary adjustments to ensure a great trip while keeping safety the top priority.

My first Backroads trip: Excellent Trip, Excellent Leaders
Here is a blog post I wrote about the trip: watsonm.substack.com/p/our-backroads-norway-fjords-hiking

A perfect 10! This trip was awesome. Exceeded expectations.
One of the best trips I've ever taken. It was my first trip with Backroads and after this experience, I highly recommend them and I will go with them again. It exceeded my expectations...the accommodations, the food and of course the hikes and activities were all amazing. Everything was perfect.
Norway hiking trip was fantastic.
Nice variety of hikes every day to accommodate different levels of fitness and strength. The guides were fun and helpful. Norway is a beautiful country to explore. Highly recommend this trip.
Amazing Trip!
The Norway Fjords Walking & Hiking Trip was our first Backroads experience. The entire trip was fabulous! Our leaders Jess and Brian were outstanding and worked hard to make sure we all had a great experience. Backroads has clearly put so much into the trip planning aspect and it all comes together seamlessly. Most days we had a choice between a more moderate hike and a challenging hike, and it was great to have these options. The scenery on this trip is hard to put into words, it's "stupidly beautiful." If you haven't been to Norway, you should do this trip. Even if you have been to Norway before, you should do this trip. Our experience could not have been any better.

Stunning scenery & fascinating history above Arctic Circle
This trip not only takes you into the beautiful, wild and remote scenery about the Arctic Circle, but also immerses you in the surprisingly fascinating history of cod fishing. I would never have guessed that cod were so interesting, but they are! And the role the fishing industry played in the Norwegian economy was genuinely interesting to learn about and in no way detracted from the quality of the hiking. Our daily hikes were challenging yet completely manageable, especially with such comfortable lodgings waiting for us. The trip leaders were knowledgable, friendly and attentive, without being overbearing or intrusive. Our fellow travelers were interesting and friendly. A fantastic trip I highly recommend.

Fantastic hiking in the fjords
First class accommodations, meals, and trip leaders. We had amazing weather throughout the week which was the icing on the cake!

Amazing trip! Amazing leaders! Amazing hikes! Amazing meals!
Trip leaders were amazing. Weather was unbelievable! A week of sun in Norway?? #grateful

Unbelievable beauty
So many experiences I'll never forget. Simply amazing views. The farm and sea to table meals exceeded all my expectations.

Definitely put this trip on your bucket list
This was our first Backroads trip. We were so impressed we have signed up for another adventure. We were awed by the Norway scenery, envigorated by the hikes (especially the glacier hike and the Raudmelen hike) and the food at every stop was delicious. Our guides catered to all of our whims. We were treated like royalty.
This trip was better than we could have imagined
We love Backroads. This was our third trip. They are so well organized. Nothing to worry about. They take care of you with plenty of snacks and food. Our recent trip to Norway was so memorable - from the beautiful scenery, delicious food, great accommodations and best of all, new friends! There was plenty of activity, there's always a choice of hike. I had a real feeling of fulfillment having completed all the hikes. Highly recommend this trip.
