Guest Trip Reviews

Having been brainwashed by my partner, about how good Backroads is, my expectations were extremely high and as the trip grew nearer. I became increasingly concerned I would be disappointed. How wrong I was - the leaders' tireless efforts to attend to every need, infectious knowledge and enthusiasm for the region as well as clear empathy with the locals ensured Amalfi was not a trip, but rather an 'experience.' The leaders' acute attention to detail, efforts to organize things with locals - such as dinner with Michelangelo, the tour of the paper factory in Amalfi and hiking with Maurizzio were most enjoyable. The leaders clearly worked well as a team and I was amazed by their boundless energy, constant state of happiness and driving skills! I think they struck a good balance between walking/hiking, educational and leisure activities. I'm pleased to say that the trip not only met, but exceded my expectations and without needed to be prompted, I am already looking forward to my next Backroads adventure.

My wife and I have been on many tours with many tour companies and this was the best that we have taken so far. The accommodations and food were carefully thought out and planned with a view to staying at locations where we experienced the true feeling of the region and local flavor of food— the restaurants took pride in sharing their culinary specialties in each town we visited. Finally, when we stopped for lunch on our hikes, our leaders ensured that we ate with the locals, which enriched our trip. Overall, the quality and quantity of the food was the best that we have ever experienced on a tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe how well run this trip was. From the activities, transportation, meals . . . everything ran like clockwork. Our leaders were incredibly professional, competent, and fun to be around. I felt like I was at "summer camp for grown ups" all week - meeting new friends, exploring nature, eating/drinking to my belly's content!

The beauty of the quiet but challenging hikes with endless views of the Amalfi Coast will exceed your expectations. The fresh seafood is outstanding, and the contact with the locals allows for a much more intimate view into the culture and provides a perfect complement to the natural allure of this delightful region. The casual hotels are charming, with locations to match.
Kathleen Maich - Regional Manager, Italian Trip Operations

The overall trip was wonderful. The leaders were wonderful, had a strong knowledge of the region and they were flexible if members of the group wanted to take time away from hiking. They took 20 strangers and helped them to create a family-like environment.
