Hidden Gems from Cloud Forest to Volcanoes & the Pacific Coast
Costa Rica or Nicaragua. Nicaragua or Costa Rica. Which was more awe-inspiring? The steaming volcano or the three waterfalls in the cloud forest? Which was more delicious, the fresh roasted coffee from the plantation or the chocolate you learned how to make at our treehouse resort? Was it the biking or the walks? The volcanic mineral springs or the rain forest? The monkeys, the iguanas or the sloths? Which was the funniest to see? Opinions will vary. But this adventure will give your family plenty of stories and lots to debate.

Straight Talk
We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

On-Your-Own Activities

During the trip there’s time for you to enjoy one of Costa Rica’s favorite activities, zip-lining. This activity is often a highlight for those who choose to do it, but as it’s not to everyone’s liking it’s not included in the cost of the trip and participation is at your own risk.

Adventures in an Emerging World

Nicaragua has emerged as an exciting new destination, but travel here can be challenging. Our itineraries and Trip Leaders remove as many obstacles and inconveniences as possible, making your next extraordinary encounter always within reach. But it’s important to remember that even all the efforts of your Trip Leaders can’t replace a poorly maintained road or revolutionize service standards. If you can be flexible and approach the region with an open mind, you’ll enjoy your trip to the fullest!
