Remember how hard it was to listen in Geology 101? Well, it wasn't the subject. You have to experience it. The Wyoming landscape - from the Tetons' granite to Yellowstone's underground activity - is a living geology lesson that will change everything for you. The Tetons. Glacial lakes, alpine meadows and dramatic vertical peaks will grab you whether you're riding horseback or paddling the Snake River. And Yellowstone. The mesmerizing geysers that rise magically high above you. The bizarre mud pots, the beautiful colors of the hot springs and the aroma of sulfur. Take in every piece of these amazing national parks with geologists, wranglers, guides and locals. They'll fill you in on what you missed in class.
We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Accommodations & Service StandardsJackson Lake Lodge, Old Faithful Inn and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel are fairly rustic national park lodges that reflect the natural surroundings of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. While these historic hotels offer simpler accommodations than the typical Backroads property, they provide unparalleled access to the best riding and hiking in the region. Please note that the guest rooms are not equipped with televisions or air-conditioning.
Generally speaking, service in the national parks can seem laid back when compared with the high standards of service found on other Backroads trips.
Interpretive Guides & Hiking With Your LeadersThe National Park Service limits the size of all groups and Grand Teton National Park doesn’t permit guided hiking. Accordingly, in Yellowstone National Park you’ll hike in small groups with Backroads leaders. In Grand Teton National Park you’ll hike with-out Backroads leaders or local guides. Your leaders will provide pre-walk briefings, maps and directions. We appreciate your coopera-tion with the park’s regulations.

Guest Trip Reviews
Two of my favorite national parks are Yellowstone and Grand Teton. These are places where you feel more physically and emotionally alive, and at the same time very introspective. In Yellowstone, you get a true sense of the planet as an evolving, vibrant environment - you can see, hear and smell the earth as it spouts and spews. And it's always fun to watch people's reactions as they begin to appreciate what's going on deep below their feet. I love sharing that experience with Backroads guests.- Regional Manager, Rockies & Southwest
