We want to make sure you're on the trip that's right for you. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Nova Scotia is a land of rich heritage and rustic charm, and while Backroads has selected the best properties in the places we visit, history and character outweigh elegance and luxury in this Maritime province. Although our hotels offer simpler amenities than the typical Backroads property, they provide us with the greatest access to the best hiking in the region.
To access the very best hiking routes, we’ll often start and end our routes with strategic shuttles via bus, van, boat or train. Expect shuttle times of one to two hours most days.

Another Amazing Adventure
This was our 8th trip with Backroads and each has provided such unique experiences. The hikes and the scenery in Nova Scotia were amazing. Such a wide variety of terrain and options. One thing we love about Backroads trips is being to hike at your own pace. My wife and I are fast movers so we were always able to walk ahead but always knowing our guides where there to check in and keep us on course. As always the guides are AMAZING!!! Very professional, well organized, prepared and able to handle unique situations with grace and ease! We really enjoy talking to and getting to know our trip leaders. The food was amazing. Dinner at the vineyard and the distillery where simply the best! As vegetarians our guides always had plenty of options for us at meals and for snacks. Accommodations were lovely and very comfortable, always in prime locations. You will LOVE this trip!
Great trip with wonderful leaders, gorgeous nature & more
Wonderful leaders who were enthusiastic, helpful, positive, and hard working. Picnics after a long hike were welcome and awesome with choices for every diet. Hikes were varied, beautiful, and built to the hardest one! Good casual hotels (though bathrooms could have used more shelves or safety bars or room!) with comfortable beds and helpful staff. Lots of little surprises. Great local produce and seafood - lovely vistas. Generally too tired or too limited in time to really explore the towns, but I'm 73, so a shower and feet up before dinner was my preferred choice. Wish I had explored the flora and geography more or had that available on each hike (as I didn't want to pull out my phone and ask google!), but that's me. No pressure to be the first one in the hike and encouraged to JOMO - joy of missing out - instead of feeling I had to be first in line or do everything on the schedule. It was my trip and leaders encouraged me to make it so!

First time but not the last time!
Backroads/Nova Scotia-Bay of Fundy to Historic Lunenburg was incredible. The leaders were top-notch and extremely well prepared. The local sourced food was delicious and interesting. And NS and her people did not disappoint. Thank you for making this trip available.
Beautiful Scenic Hikes While Building Community
This was my third Backroads trip, though my first hiking/walking trip. The other two were biking trips. Hiking in beautiful scenery provided the perfect tranquil environment I was hoping to experience on this vacation. What made it extra special were the quality and enthusiasm of the leaders, abundant and delicious local food, and the other hikers who all looked out for one another and became a caring community. I highly recommend Backroads.

Perfect Blend of Hiking and Discovery
The trip was a perfect blend of hiking and discovery, orchestrated exquisitely by our guides. The landscape is beautiful, and the hikes are just the right length to satisfy everyone's need for daily exercise. Along the way, there are many opportunities to learn about the history of the providence and life today in Nova Scotia. Of course, there are many fun activities such as a boat ride to an island, lobster for lunch, a lady who makes magical jellies and herb liqueurs, and a tour of an historic fishing trawler. Most importantly, you will never get fresher seafood or a bad meal. You enjoy all of this with good fellow travelers and fantastic guides. What's not to love.
Charming and Scenic Nova Scotia
An active adventure combining hiking and history throughout the coastal regions and valleys of Nova Scotia. Charming villages, vineyards and beautiful views. The seafood and fresh wines were delightful. Wonderful leaders! It was a great trip and I highly recommend!

Fabulous
Everything was perfect
My first experience with Backroads was amazing.
The combination of the majestic and historical Nova Scotia combined with the two most fun, experienced and entertaining guides equals AWESOMENESS.

This trip literally drove me to tears of joy.
I came alone on this tour (Nova Scotia). The trip leaders and support staff managed to make me feel almost immediately like I, the backroads employees and the other guests, were all part of an extended family. The guest speakers were inspirational and authentic. It was the most rewarding five days of my life!

I am now and will remain a "Backroader"
Being a first time "backroader", I had limited expectations but was so thoroughly pleased and satisfied with the service, guides, care, historical dialogue (including the music) that the trip won my desire to experience another adventure with Backroads. Our leaders and support member were very enjoyable and cared for every aspect of need for all on the trip. Plus they enjoyed themselves. I loved the ability that everyone could go at their own pace and that there were optional high, low activities almost daily. Food was plentiful fresh with lots of healthy choices and very farm/sea to table.
