Itinerary

Day 1 Witness the otherworldly rock formations of Bryce Canyon, once described by settler Ebenezer Bryce as "a hell of a place to lose a cow" | Among these brilliant red spires, you'll feel as if you're hiking through a petrified forest—or on another planet | Follow the Fairyland Loop as it encircles Boat Mesa for one of the most scenic day hikes in the park.

Day 2 Spend the morning exploring Bryce's main amphitheater, where iconic hoodoos, Queen Victoria and Thor's Hammer, await | Hop on your bike for a spin through a winding colorful landscape | Take in the views at Rainbow Point, where the entirety of the park stretches out before you | Swap stories and make new friends around the campfire.

Days 3-4 Biking out of Bryce, point your wheels downhill through peaceful Red Canyon | Take your pick of inspiring hikes in Zion National Park | Opt for different canyon views on a hike to Observation Point | Don't mind getting wet? Trek through the inner gorge of the Virgin River amid hanging gardens and sheer cliffs | Maybe a stroll to Emerald Pools or tackling the dizzying climb to Angels Landing is calling | Looking for a souvenir? Wander through charming Springdale's shops and art galleries | Marvel at the changing colors of a canyon sunset.

Day 5 Ready for one of the most bike-friendly roads in the West? The towering red cliffs along Zion's traffic-free Scenic Drive may challenge you to keep your eyes on the road | Or opt to learn more about American Indian culture and historic pioneer settlement at Zion's Human History Museum.

The earlier you book, the more choice you'll have and the lower your price. And you can always change your mind — you won't be charged to transfer to a different trip before your final payment is due. View cancellation policy.

Get the Straight Talk about This Trip

We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

Interpretive Guides & Hiking Without Your Leaders

The National Park Service has many hiking regulations. In Zion National Park they limit where you can hike when accompanied by your Trip Leaders. Your leaders will provide pre-walk briefings, maps and directions so you can explore certain trails on your own. In Bryce Canyon National Park, your leaders can hike with you but can't act as "interpretive guides." Throughout the trip, your leaders will give an orientation to the area's flora, fauna and terrain before your hikes. Thank you for helping us cooperate with each park's regulations.

Tents & Sleeping Essentials, Ruby's Campground

During our 2-night stay at Ruby's Campground, our spacious dome tents comfortably accommodate two adults plus luggage. Cots with an extra-thick inflatable sleeping pad, sleeping bag and sleep sheet are all provided.

Tents & Sleeping Essentials, Under Canvas Zion

During our 2-night stay at Under Canvas Zion, we are accommodated in large canvas-walled cabin-style safari tents. Each is outfitted with a king-size bed (including luxurious sheets, covers and pillows!) and a wood-burning stove. There is space in the tent for luggage.

Restroom & Shower Facilities

Under Canvas Zion and Ruby's Campground have flush toilets and running water. Shower facility floors can be wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops! We also recommend bringing a hanging toiletry bag since space is limited and surfaces are wet. Be advised that outlets and mirrors are few. During our 2-night stay at Ruby's Campground, towels are not provided. Be sure to pack your own. However, during our 2-night stay at Under Canvas Zion, towels are provided.

Why Travel with Backroads in Zion and Bryce

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our Zion and Bryce trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

We Invented the Multi-Adventure Trip

After more than 30 years of creating Backroads Multi-Adventures, our trip designers know how to blend the perfect balance of biking and hiking with other activities to showcase the best of a region. And then they arrange the seamless transitions that would be so hard to orchestrate on your own—adding dimensions to your trip that are exciting, inspiring and just plain fun.

The Best Leaders in Zion and Bryce

Backroads has the best-qualified people to lead your trip in Zion and Bryce, and our guests back that up, rating our Trip Leaders an average of 9.75 out of 10 for all-around quality of performance. Get the facts (and no fluff) on how we recruit and develop the very best people for your trip.

Get the Most Out of Each Day

Coordinating multiple activities throughout a single day can be tricky, but with Backroads you'll never know it. When you explore Zion and Bryce with us, you switch activities seamlessly without missing a beat. We invented the multi-adventure concept, and we're constantly adding new dimensions and fine-tuning the experience to make it even more enjoyable.

No One Else Camps Like This

Only Backroads offers our style of Deluxe Camping in Zion and Bryce. Whether you're a first-timer or an old pro, you'll love how we immerse you in spectacular surroundings—and look after all the chores. Enjoy a great meal by the fire with interesting companions, then a peaceful night on your comfortable cot. Here's more on how we do the great outdoors.

Kids Who Aren't Kids Anymore

Only Backroads offers active trips in Zion and Bryce designed for families with older teens and 20s. These trips are aimed at you and the amazingly grownup members of your clan—whether they're almost high school grads, already in college or further along. Find out more in this blog post.

Our Superb Bikes Included

A great bike is obviously critical for a great multi-adventure trip; you don't want to gamble on one that's been sourced locally to trim costs. This trip features our acclaimed Backroads Custom Titanium bikes, expertly tuned and fitted, and included in your trip price. Learn why our titanium bikes are ideal for most riders.

Quality You Can Measure

Since 1979, Backroads Founder and President Tom Hale has shown that staying #1 means constantly evaluating our performance using the best possible source of information: our guests. As we systematically analyze your feedback on our trip consultants, leaders, hotels, meals and on-trip activities, we never stop working to make a great company even better.

A Variety of Routes Each Day

In Zion and Bryce you head off each morning after choosing among several expertly designed routes—all with detailed directions, mileage and shuttle options. Unlike trips with one fixed daily route (or worse, one guide that everyone's obliged to follow), you're free to enjoy the best of the region at your pace, stopping wherever you want to explore further.

We've Set the Standard

For nearly four decades we've worked to earn and maintain our right to call Backroads the world's #1 active travel company. In pursuing that vision on behalf of our guests, we believe we've set the standard for our industry—captured in the Backroads Quality Guide, which clearly sets out the benchmarks of excellence, choice and support that we live by
