Can this mountain landscape, with its waterfalls, vast virgin forests, glacial valleys and towering ice-glazed peaks, truly exist? It's a fun thought to ponder as you and your family walk through a forest full of red cedar and fir. Is that really a bighorn sheep perched on the bluff? Amazing to consider. Even better to experience.

Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome to Big Sky Country! | After meeting in Whitefish, head out on a warm-up ride into Glacier National Park | Pedal to an overlook where stunning views of Lake McDonald and the surrounding valley await | Stop in Apgar Village and check out regionally made crafts in the shops and galleries, or drop by the visitor center to learn about the park's geology and wildlife.

Day 2 A shuttle whisks us to Logan Pass via the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road which, according to Outside magazine, "provides a year's worth of extraordinary scenery in one trip" | Embark on a hike through the surrounding area with plunging waterfalls, enormous virgin forests, towering peaks and glacier-carved valleys as our backdrop.

Days 3-4 In the striking Many Glacier Valley, hike to a lake cold enough to harbor icebergs well into the warmer months | Spot bighorn sheep, mule deer and maybe even a grizzly bear | Enjoy spectacular views of the sweeping prairies and plains of Montana as you pedal a roller-coaster route along the eastern border of Glacier into Two Medicine Valley | Feeling brave? Perhaps you'll opt for a swim in the chilly waters of Two Medicine Lake.

Day 5 Raft down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River with expert guides who provide a unique perspective on the flora and fauna along the way.

The earlier you book, the more choice you'll have and the lower your price. And you can always change your mind — you won't be charged to transfer to a different trip before your final payment is due. View cancellation policy.

Our spacious dome tents comfortably accommodate two adults plus luggage. On Family Trips we provide two adjacent tents for parents and children. Cots with an extra-thick inflatable sleeping pad, sleeping bag and sleep sheet are all provided. Backroads does not supply pillows, so please bring your own. No lighting is provided in your tent, so a small flashlight is essential.

Restroom & Shower Facilities

Restroom facilities are available at each campground but do not have flush toilets, running water or electricity. Shower facility floors can be wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops! Why Travel with Backroads in Glacier

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our Glacier trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

More Leaders to Support You

On our Glacier trips we have an extra leader supporting you along the road and trail—for a total of three, compared to the industry standard two. So we can be in more places at once, giving personal attention to guests traveling at their own pace. Here's more on our Trip Leaders.

No One Else Camps Like This

Only Backroads offers our style of Deluxe Camping in Glacier. Whether you're a first-timer or an old pro, you'll love how we immerse you in spectacular surroundings—and look after all the chores. Enjoy a great meal by the fire with interesting companions, then a peaceful night on your comfortable cot. Here's more on how we do the great outdoors.

Kids Who Aren't Kids Anymore

Only Backroads offers active trips in Glacier designed for families with older teens and 20s. These trips are aimed at you and the amazingly grownup members of your clan—whether they're almost high school grads, already in college or further along. Find out more in this blog post.

We Were Born Here (in 1979)

Backroads has been inviting active travelers to explore our own backyard since Jimmy Carter was in the White House. We offer more trips than anyone else in Glacier, and we've spent more years finding the best ones. What keeps it real is having a consistent vision and the same passionately committed leadership for nearly four decades.

We Invented the Multi-Adventure Trip

After more than 30 years of creating Backroads Multi-Adventures, our trip designers know how to blend the perfect balance of biking and hiking with other activities to showcase the best of a region. And then they arrange the seamless transitions that would be so hard to orchestrate on your own—adding dimensions to your trip that are exciting, inspiring and just plain fun.

Our Superb Bikes Included

A great bike is obviously critical for a great multi-adventure trip; you don't want to gamble on one that's been sourced locally to trim costs. This trip features our acclaimed Backroads Custom Titanium bikes, expertly tuned and fitted, and included in your trip price. Learn why our titanium bikes are ideal for most riders.
