Itinerary

Day 1 Find adventure and serenity in Utah's remote canyon country where the relentless power of wind and water have shaped the landscape into something otherworldly | Get to know Bryce Canyon as you take in extraordinary views from the rim then descend on foot into a labyrinth of delicate red rock pillars called hoodoos | Visit the Temple of Osiris, Queen Victoria and Thor's Hammer then take a stroll down Wall Street | Relax at our hotel just outside the park.

Day 2 Amble along the Fairyland Trail where every step brings new and impressive geological discoveries | Learn about the Native American legend that led the Paiute people to call this land Angka-ku-wass-a-wits (Red Painted Faces) | Take your cycling prowess to new heights as you pedal to 9,100-foot Rainbow Point | Once the sun sets, Bryce's night sky offers incredible stargazing opportunities.

Day 3 Coast along a paved bike path where stands of green ponderosa pines contrast with red sandstone pillars | Sit back and enjoy the ride en route to Capitol Reef National Park along Utah's All-American Road, Scenic Byway 12 | Pass through the once inaccessible town of Boulder, the last in the nation to receive mail by mule train | A refreshing dip in the pool awaits at our hotel near the park's entrance.

Days 4-5 Explore one of Utah's best-kept secrets, a place the Navajo called Land of the Sleeping Rainbow | Venture toward the Waterpocket Fold, a mammoth buckling of the earth's surface almost 100 miles long | Gaze over a landscape that looks much like it did when John Wesley Powell's famous expedition passed through in 1869 | Hike amid rock formations resembling the rounded white dome of the US capitol building, in part the inspiration for the park's name | Glimpse historical remains of the pre-Colombian Fremont culture and a thriving orchard planted by 19th-century Mormon pioneers | Trek under and then across a picturesque 133-foot natural arch.

The earlier you book, the more choice you'll have and the lower your price. And you can always change your mind — you won't be charged to transfer to a different trip before your final payment is due. View cancellation policy.

Get the Straight Talk about This Trip

We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

Interpretive Guides & Hiking Without Your Leaders

The National Park Service has many regulations on hiking. In Bryce Canyon National Park, your leaders can hike with you but can't act as "interpretive guides." Throughout the trip, your leaders will give an orientation to the area's flora, fauna and terrain before your hikes. Thank you for helping us cooperate with the park's regulations.

Why Travel with Backroads in Bryce, Capitol Reef

Everyone at Their Own Pace

We design and support our Bryce, Capitol Reef trips to suit mixed abilities and varied interests—so you can set your own pace, then change things up as the day unfolds. And all guests are free to do the same, traveling together or apart, with no one cramping anyone else's style. Which sounds easy in theory, but it's hard to pull off. Here's more on how we do it.

More Leaders to Support You

On our Bryce, Capitol Reef trips we have an extra leader supporting you along the road and trail—for a total of three, compared to the industry standard two. So we can be in more places at once, giving personal attention to guests traveling at their own pace. Here's more on our Trip Leaders.
