We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.
Interpretive Guides & Hiking Without Your LeadersDue to permit restrictions for all outfitters, your Backroads leaders can hike with you in Bryce Canyon National Park, but can't act as interpretive guides. They will be unable to hike with you in Grand Canyon National Park and are limited to guiding on certain trails in Zion National Park. Throughout the trip, your leaders will give an orientation to the area's flora, fauna and terrain before your hikes.
Permit restrictions also dictate that your leaders won't be able to offer route support on the optional bike ride at the Grand Canyon.
Tents & Sleeping EssentialsOur spacious dome tents easily accommodate two adults and their gear. Sleeping bag, sleep sheet and an extra-thick inflatable sleeping pad are all provided to make sleeping on the ground more comfortable. Backroads does not supply pillows, so please bring your own. No lighting is provided in your tent, so a small flashlight is essential.
Restroom FacilitiesRestroom facilities are available at each campground. The restroom floors can be wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops! We also recommend bringing a hanging toiletry bag since space is limited and surfaces are wet. Be advised that outlets and mirrors are few. Backroads does not supply towels, so please be sure to pack your own.
AttireComfortable, casual attire and footwear is strongly recommended - leave those heels or imported Italian leather loafers at home! Also be sure to bring along a few warm layers for the cooler evenings.
ConnectivityKeeping your cell phone charged while on a camping trip is usually done during the day via a car charger in the Backroads van. Backroads will provide car chargers with USB ports, so please make sure to bring your USB connecter cord with you. You’ll be responsible for plugging your phone in and retrieving it at a later time.
Days 1-2 Witness the otherworldly rock formations of Bryce Canyon, once described by settler Ebenezer Bryce as "a hell of a place to lose a cow" Among these brilliant red spires, you'll feel as if you're hiking through a petrified forest - or on another planet The hilly ride to Rainbow Point gets your blood pumping Margaritas anyone? Get to know your comrades over drinks and a fabulous alfresco meal Biking out of Bryce, point your wheels downhill through peaceful Red Canyon.
Day 3 Nothing compares to that first view of the spectacular Grand Canyon, one of the world's seven natural wonders Walk the secluded Widforss Trail for vistas across the canyon, or head out to Bright Angel Point to view the Colorado River as it slices through the earth If a descent into the Grand Canyon itself is your thing, follow the North Kaibab Trail down to Supai Tunnel.
Days 4-6 Take your pick of inspiring hikes in Zion National Park Entering Zion, pedal through the canyon amid towering walls of Navajo sandstone Don't mind getting wet? Hike the Narrows, one of Backpacker magazine's "Best Hikes Ever," a trek through the inner gorge of the Virgin River amid hanging gardens and sheer cliffs Or stroll to Emerald Pools or opt for the dizzying climb to Angels Landing At our scenic rim-top campground, a pre-dinner game of volleyball may be in order.
Guests Reviews About This Trip
We could not have been more pleased with the trip. We know Backroads did not create the countryside, but we felt that you led us to the activities that allowed us to take the best advantage of and get the most out of where we were.- Evanston, IL
I have taken some great vacations; this was the best. The leaders were sensational. Your people are wonderful, your processes and training are impeccable. I have been in business for 30 years and am an avid athlete in my 50s. This exceeded all my expectations; I am impressed with your people and company. Not only did I have fun, I am motivated as a businessman and manager to have more passion for my own work. I will be back with Backroads and will refer others. Thank you!- Columbus, OH
