I captured this photograph of my mom on our first day, when we hiked the majestic Kura Tawhiti. Above us, the altitude had morphed the clouds into waves, and below us, the sprawling hills boasted spectacular limestone rock formations. It was a surreal way to begin the trip of a lifetime, and this moment encapsulated our excitement to embark on our mother-daughter adventure.

The children in Huilloc captured my heart. This is one of the many photos I took to always remember the beauty and resilience of this traditional Inca community. While I was there, I showed the children the photos that I took of them; it was a special way to connect and overcome the language barrier. Machu Picchu was amazing, but the visit to Huilloc was the unexpected highlight of my trip.

The photo was captured in Red Rock Canyon in Waterton Canada during what we rate as one of our best rides ever. The road was closed to car traffic, the backdrop in the canyon was stunning, and the wildflowers were in peak bloom. My wife and I were riding with her brother and wife, and we stopped to take photos of them on their tandem. Tranquil setting until the ground starts to shake and my brother-in-law yells moose. After a very close pass, the gigantic bull moose clomped beside us before crossing the road and continuing through the meadow. Would never have gotten my phone out in time had we not been taking photos already. Great timing by the moose although maybe arranged by Backroads as they took care of everything else!

The Banff to Jasper multi-adventure trip was one of my favorite Backroads trips. Everywhere we went was stunningly beautiful. Banff was both a charming town and surrounded by incredible natural beauty. This photo was taken just before the start of our trip, and looking back at it, my feeling is that this beautiful rainbow pointed to the "gold" that is the Canadian Rockies.

Riding through and around miles of fields of tulips in bloom on a crisp, sunny day is one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. I took hundreds of pictures that day, but not one really pays homage to such an experience. It should be on everybody’s bucket list.
