What was your experience like as a Camp Crew?
What I thought would be an exciting and adventurous opportunity over the summer turned into being a part of a really amazing community of inspiring individuals. Although the days are long and the work is hard, the people you work with make it all worthwhile. As camp crew, you learn and cultivate both hard and soft skills, like developing creative solutions to unique problems, working with what is in front of you, being a forward thinker, and working as a team.
What were the highlights?
The highlights of the job are the people and the beautiful places we are able to work in and explore. There is nothing more grounding after a long day of work than to look around you and realize where you are!
What are the hardest parts of the job?
This is the hardest job you will ever love. Its HARD work.
What skills did you gain during Camp Crew??
Problem solving/ hard skills like driving a van and trailer/ creating solutions to unique problems/ working with you have in front of you/ time management/ guest service/ working as a team.
How did Camp Crew help you be a better leader?
All of the skills I learned as Camp Crew were valuable in making me a better leader. Understanding what goes into a trip and what it takes to work as a team in the field provided me with a great platform as I went into leader training. As Camp Crew, I learned the pace of a trip and how to work efficiently.
Any advice for future Camp Crew?
Milk this opportunity for all it is worth! Get out and enjoy yourself when you have time off, but be sure to take care of yourself as well. Seek advice and feedback from those you work with, but also understand the job is hard and you should be kind to yourself! Know what sustains you and stay true to it.
