Congratulations to the winners of the 2009 Photo Contest!
This year's photo contest proved that our guests are amazing photographers. The 3 winning photos were selected from a field of nearly 4,200 images revealing the natural splendor, cultural sights and spontaneous moments on Backroads trips.
First place is awarded to Katie Helbig from Baja Multisport.

Photographer's Notes
This picture was taken on the last day of our Baja multisport trip, which was also our honeymoon! We took a scenic hike back to this pool, which had a natural water slide and an amazing backdrop. To me this picture captures the essence of "vacation"... having a blast in nature's most beautiful settings. It was an excellent ending to a great vacation and honeymoon.
Photographer's Notes
Backroads riders receive a "water blessing" near Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
Our instructions were to focus on one
thing we really hoped for - like health
of a sick relative, or another Backroads bike ride.
If we could hold our focus while receiving the water
blessing, our "prayer" would come true.
Photographer's Notes
The photo was taken at the seawall in Essouira, just outside the old city. What caught my eye was the weathered face of the fisherman, all the converging blue colors of his shirt, hat and the sky. I took the photo just as the seagull landed on his shoulder and right before he turned and swiped the bird away.
Also, congratulations to Jill Indovino, who won the $200 Patagonia MLC Suitcase for participating in the contest voting!
We invite you to enter the Backroads Photo Contest. Good luck!
