The Bike Fleet: Bikes designed for the way you like to ride
We've gone the extra mile to ensure the right frame and materials are best for each rider and condition. For our main fleet we match a carbon fiber fork with a lightweight titanium frame to give our guests a smooth and solid ride without feeling every "nuance" of the road. For our more performance, race-oriented guests, we go for all carbon fiber on the Specialized bikes to allow them to accelerate in a quick sprint to the village sign or really put it in the corner while on a descent. For tandems we believe that two people on one bike calls for the flex and strength that only a hand-built cro-moly steel frame can provide.

Backroads Titanium Road Bike Included in your trip price
Our custom-built titanium bikes are specially designed for you—and we offer different models for varied terrain so your bike is ideally suited to the region. The road bike features a lightweight titanium frame, a triple chainring, an ergonomic saddle, tires for the terrain and an adjustable handlebar stem to fine-tune your ride position. Specialized S-Works Roubaix $400 rental fee
If you've ever dreamed of touring on an $8,000+ pro-level bike, here's your chance. The absolute top-of-the-line S-Works Roubaix, four-time winner of Paris-Roubaix, will help launch your ride to the next level. This feather-light carbon bike features the legendary Shimano Dura-Ace component group and super lightweight DT Swiss Tricon 1450 wheel set, paired with Specialized's compact carbon crank. The Women's Specialized Ruby Pro is a top-of-the-line, light, agile speed machine that's precisely designed for women. From the customized tubing and geometry to the upgraded DT Swiss Tricon 1450 wheel set and the vibration-dampening carbon fork with Zertz inserts, every detail on this bike is engineered to improve fit, efficiency and confidence. Women-specific components include short-reach brake levers, anatomically contoured Body Geometry saddles, and all-new handlebars designed with a short reach and shallow drop. Co-Motion Torpedo Tandem $500 rental fee
Do you prefer to spin in tandem with your partner? You'll love the Co-Motion Periscope Torpedo tandem on your next Backroads trip. This hand-built frame features Co-Motion's custom designed cro-moly steel tubeset, powerful Avid disc brakes, Shimano Ultegra drive train, and custom, upgraded wheel set. The Periscope stoker seatpost accommodates a wide range of heights. Suggested for riders with some tandem experience and on trips with flatter terrain. Due to the tandem size, frequent racking is not realistic, so there may be fewer opportunities to hop in the van. View full bike size/geometry and bike specifications.

Backroads Titanium Mountain Bike Included in your trip price
The titanium mountain bikes are custom designed for more comfortable riding on trips where routes include some dirt and rougher paved roads. They are used on biking trips in Argentina, China, India, Myanmar and Thailand and on multisport trips in Costa Rica, Dolomites, Ecuador & Galápagos, Iceland, Panama, Peru and South Africa. NEW! Backroads Electric Bike $300 rental fee
Wishing for a little extra assistance up those hills? Our new custom Backroads Electric Bike lets you experience the thrill of exploring on two wheels while providing a boost when you want it. We've modified a selection of our great Titanium Bikes with the intuitive BionX "pedal-assist" system. This lightweight battery-operated system adds power to each pedal stroke, easing off when you want less and increasing power when you want more. It's like always having the wind at your back!

Kids' Bike Included in your trip price
Backroads is the only travel company to manufacture its own line of kid's bikes. While the wheels might be small, the performance is big—it's the perfect choice for kids. On all Backroads Family Trips, you'll find 20" and 24" bicycles for the younger set. They say good things come in small packages; when it comes to bikes for kids of all ages, Backroads is the expert.
Burley Piccolo
The Burley Piccolo, for children up to 85 pounds, attaches to an adult bike with your child providing some of the pedal power at their own cadence. It's ideal for kids who may be comfortable pedaling around the neighborhood but aren't yet ready for bike touring.
Burley D'Lite
For children 60 pounds and under, this sturdy carrier easily attaches to our bikes and provides a comfortable ride in the spacious interior with inner pockets for snacks and drinks, an ultra-padded seat with shoulder harness and an adjustable sunscreen.

Service and ConvenienceOn the first day of your trip, your leaders show you how to ride safely and efficiently, with particular emphasis on shifting and braking. They check your bike daily and make any adjustments necessary to improve your ride. Flat tire? No problem. They'll fix it for you. |
