Set Your Own Pace: Activity Level Options

Ever since Backroads offered its first adventure in Death Valley 29 years ago, our active vacations have always featured a range of mileage options, a go-at-your-own-pace philosophy and plenty of vehicle support.

Every Backroads trip is designed to appeal to a wide variety of fitness levels. We know your pace may vary from one day to the next—and your traveling companion’s may vary from yours. So we present a range of mileage options, and each day you decide exactly what and how much you want to do.

Your Trip Leaders know the routes and can help you in your selection. Our shuttle vans not only offer support for the route of your choice, but they serve as mobile refreshment centers as well.

You’ll find the Route Rating noted in the sidebar of every trip description. Our Activity Chart translates the Route Ratings into approximate time and distance:

If an epic experience is what you're seeking, many of our trips offer Level 5 options. While these options may not be published in the directions each day, your leaders will gladly point the way. Just ask!
