Nature's Best on the Pacific Coast & Nicoya Peninsula

Holy cow! Or rather, holy huge millipede! Was that a toucan? Can you spot those monkeys you've been hearing? Swinging through the jungle, Tarzan style. Do some swinging of your own on a zip-line. Or will it be beach time? Or paddling along the Pacific coastline? Or plunging into a waterfall? It's up to you. With a week of family fun in Costa Rica.

Straight Talk

We want to make sure you're on the right trip and that you have the best experience possible. Every Backroads trip is unique and this one is no exception.

Mountain Biking

Costa Rica is a world-renowned for numerous eco-adventures. However, due to Costa Rica's tropical climate and under-developed infrastructure, road maintenance is a continual challenge and options for bike routes are limited. We've chosen the best route for your trip, with a combination of quieter dirt roads and more traveled paved options.

On-Your-Own Activities

During the trip there's time for you to enjoy some of Costa Rica's favorite activities, such as zip-lining, horseback riding and surfing. These activities are often a highlight for those who choose to do them, but as they're not to everyone's liking they're not included in the cost of the trip and participation is at your own risk.

Guest Reviews About This Trip

This was the best family vacation we have ever been on and we are experienced vacationers. I have already recommended Backroads, and this trip in specific, to friends and we only got back last night. We've gone on Backroads bike trips previously but had never taken our kids and had never done a multisport trip. We have an athletic 15-year-old and a not-very-athletic 12-year-old. Amazingly, this trip worked well for both kids. Everyone was happy.
Ann Becker- Kentfield, CA
One of the best vacations I've ever been on. Our guides were knowledgeable, excellent teachers, and also patient with us. I appreciated their humor as well as their knowledge and insight. Aside from the wonderful leaders, great accommodations, and beautifully interesting country, another thing that made the trip so special was the chemistry of the group…it was so enjoyable to be traveling with such a friendly and interesting mix of people. It was also amazing how well the kids in the group gelled.
Michael Steinberg- West Hartford, CT
My daughter and I both felt that Backroads gave us a chance to enjoy the local culture, food, people and wildlife in Costa Rica in a way that we never would have experienced on our own.
