Tents & Sleeping Essentials

Our spacious dome tents easily accommodate two adults and their gear. Sleeping bag, sleep sheet and an extra-thick inflatable sleeping pad are all provided to make sleeping on the ground more comfortable. Backroads does not supply pillows, so please bring your own. No lighting is provided in your tent, so a small flashlight is essential.

Restroom Facilities

Restroom facilities are available at each campground. The restroom floors can be wet, so be sure to bring flip-flops! We also recommend bringing a hanging toiletry bag since space is limited and surfaces are wet. Be advised that outlets and mirrors are few. Backroads does not supply towels, so please be sure to pack your own.

Attire

Comfortable, casual attire and footwear is strongly recommended - leave those heels or imported Italian leather loafers at home! Also be sure to bring along a few warm layers for the cooler evenings.

Connectivity

Keeping your cell phone charged while on a camping trip is usually done during the day via a car charger in the Backroads van. Backroads will provide car chargers with USB ports, so please make sure to bring your USB connecter cord with you. You’ll be responsible for plugging your phone in and retrieving it at a later time.

Guests Reviews About This Trip

Wonderful. Activities were diverse, well coordinated, lots of fun, opportunities to make several activities more challenging. Sites, sounds, camping experience, food were fantastically outstanding. This trip in particular had many wonderful experiences: Biking, hiking, rafting, kayaking, more biking and more hiking (Harding Ice Field hike was awesome - it was challenging, but worth every ache and pain). Every day provided new opportunities to experience Alaska in a different way. The camping experience allows one to become immersed within the elements of nature associated with that particular microenvironment. The evening campfire allowed everyone an opportunity to reflect on the day and as always, there was plenty of amazing food to be had.

This was my 6th Backroads trip and I have once again come away just loving your organization! While your itineraries are awesome and the activities are fun, I have always felt that the leaders make the trip and all three of our leaders were incredible. What a great team! All three were so helpful, flexible, accommodating, service-oriented, always smiling, engaging but most importantly just fun to be around. Thanks, again!

I had a wonderful time with Backroads in Alaska. The leaders were organized, accommodating, and so much fun! The scenery was breathtaking, and we really got a chance to enjoy a variety of activities (biking, hiking, kayaking, rafting, etc.) in a relatively short period of time. Our leaders were so enthusiastic and positive throughout the trip. They worked tirelessly to prepare delicious (and fancy!) meals, clean dishes, set up and take down the tents, pack the vans, etc. I don't know if they ever slept! They worked very well together and had a terrific rapport. They supported each other, took turns leading the activities and staying back to cook, etc. and were always positive in their interactions and comments. This set a wonderful tone for the group. I feel very fortunate to have gotten such a great team of leaders. In addition to the amazing activities, scenery, and just being in the beautiful Alaskan outdoors, they made the trip a huge success.
