While not a priority during the country's communist years, service is improving, though you may not always experience the level of convenience or service typically found in Western countries. It's best to travel in the Czech Republic with an open mind and a sense of humor. Day 1 From the shores of beautiful Lake Lipno, bike to the World Heritage site of Ceský Krumlov, the best-preserved town in Bohemia, where the majority of buildings are designated cultural monuments In Český Krumlov, pedal past twisting lanes and red-tile roofs to behold views of ornate 13th-century Krumlov Hrad, the second-largest castle in the Czech Republic.
Day 2 Dive into Czech history with Helena, our local friend and historian Take a spin into the countryside for a panoramic view of rolling hills and traditional farmsteads Perhaps gather at a local pub for a pint-sized taste of Czech culture.
Days 3-4 Discover two intriguing countries and cultures in one trip Welcome to Austria’s famed Danube Valley, where you'll ride past lush orchards, terraced vineyards, forests and pretty pastel-colored villages Pedal along the rolling green hills of the famous Mostviertel (cider district) and perhaps stop for a taste Visit Melk, whose magnificent Baroque abbey is perched high on a rocky promontory After a dinner of regional specialties, enjoy a rousing performance of 19th-century folk dance.
Days 5-6 Soak up views of Austria's picture-perfect villages with onion-shaped church steeples A bucolic biking route takes you through a string of sleepy villages to the 1,000-year-old town of Krems and its World Heritage site center Visit a traditional Austrian heuriger (wine tavern) to sample house-made grape juice and wine Say goodbye in vibrant Vienna, a captivating place to extend your vacation.

There is less than 5% of riding on hard-packed dirt on this trip. Since the overwhelming majority of the trip is paved, we've elected to use standard road bike tires on our titanium road bikes. Most guests find this to be the right answer. If you prefer to skip the dirt, a shuttle is always a possibility.
