The Day-to-Day Itinerary

Days 1-2 Sarlat

Meet in Brive-la-Gaillarde Bike into the heart of the Dordogne on picturesque country roads, passing walnut groves, tobacco fields and cozy villages  Pedal to the walled hilltop town of Domme, a medieval masterpiece filled with honey-hued cottages and tiny gardens  Hop aboard a Middle Ages-style barge for a scenic river cruise  Kids don helmets and headlamps for an exhilarating spelunking adventure Amid the atmospheric glow of gas lamps, stroll through Sarlat, containing more medieval, Renaissance and 17th-century buildings than any other town in France. 

Days 3-4 Monestier

While the younger set gets a taste of rural life in 1900 and participates in crafts and trades practiced a century ago, grown-ups ride through the scenic pastoral landscape en route to Les Eyzies, the "Capital of Prehistory"  Marvel at France's finest collection of original Cro Magnon cave paintings, which date back 20,000 years, during a tour of the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume Spin from the lush forested Dordogne River Valley to the rolling vineyard-dotted landscape around Bergerac Adults indulge in a glass of Monbazillac's distinctive sweet white wine during an exclusive visit to the 16th-century château Kids take a stab at the fine art of fencing.

Days 5-6 Saint-Emilion

Bike past some of the world's best-known vineyards and through seemingly undiscovered hamlets  In fortified medieval St-émilion, a World Heritage site, adults join an expert oenologist for a private wine class  Kids venture to a typical outdoor market to select ingredients for our picnic lunch while adults take a lovely bike ride, then enjoy a walking tour of St-émilion  Cap off your trip with a tour and dégustation at a premier Grand Cru château.
