Andean Culture from the World's Highest Vineyards in Salta to Mighty Iguazú Falls

Yes, you’ll stand side by side with your family. Silently gazing upward at the sheer rust-colored walls of Quebrada de Cafayate. And you’ll be all together speechlessly witnessing the Iguazú falls. One of the Seven Wonders. The raging waters going down and down as the stepped cliffs go up and up. And you’ll spend dinners enjoying wines from the world’s highest-altitude vineyards and sharing authentic Argentine meals after incredible days of biking and hiking. You’ll experience so much of Argentina’s past and present and even a small piece of Brazil. If this trip leaves you speechless, don’t worry, this is an experience your family will be talking about for a lifetime.

Itinerary

Day 1 Learn about the lives of Argentine gauchos and their passion for horses, music, wine and storytelling at our family ranch hacienda Ascend from low countryside through the subtropical forest of Las Yungas Biosphere Reserve, thick with ancient trees and lush ferns Meet the challenge of a 10,000-foot pass as you pedal up to the arid Andean altiplano, studded with giant candelabra-like cacti Kids head to a ranch to explore the farm, feed calves and fuzzy llamas.

Day 2 Taste excellent vintages in the Cafayate wine region, home to the world's highest-altitude vineyards An indigenous village and the pre-Inca settlement of Quilmes invite exploration Enjoy the lively rhythms of traditional Andean music Savor an exclusive dinner at a local family winery Enthusiastic local schoolchildren entertain you with a folklore performance  Kids go on a scavenger hunt through Cafayate.

Days 3-4 Indulge at the spa or relax at the pool at the welcoming Relais & Châteaux member - House of Jasmines Create and cook your own empanadas in an adobe oven Explore Salta "La Linda" (The Beautiful), Argentina's most stunning colonial city Sure to be a trip highlight is the long spin through Quebrada de Cafayate, a brilliant canyon of undulating reds and golds punctuated with dramatically eroded rock formations Get to know our friends at their working farm and cheese workshop, which has been in the same family for more than 200 years Indulge in famous Argentine beef prepared asado on the grill Keep an eye (and ear) out for native birdlife, including four species of the falcon-like caracara, as you bike through the Yungas and tackle a big climb followed by a glorious descent to the pristine waters of Ciénaga Lake  Kids can learn to dance the samba from a professional.

Days 5-8 Explore the magnificent Iguazú Falls As you walk to the powerful Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) falls, keep an eye out for colorful birds, snakes, turtles and caimans Bike through tropical Misiones Forest Arrive at the "Triple Frontier," where two rivers converge at the junction of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil Two-wheel it to the village of the Mbaya indigenous tribe, who talk to us about their ancestral crafts, traditions and hopes for the future while kids learn their traditional technique for basket making  Pedal across the border for a look at the Brazilian side of Iguazú Falls, followed by a gourmet dinner at the hotel, perched just above the thundering cascade.

Guest Reviews About This Trip

Starting in the Argentine highlands and ending in the jungles of Iguazú, this is a completely new family experience. Every day of this adventure has something unforgettable. Adults will sample one-of-a-kind Argentine wines, cycle from Andean pastures to arid cactus lands and enjoy live music. Kids will learn traditional dances, make Argentine meals and explore the rain forest with new friends. And the whole family will enjoy two days at Iguazú Falls - one of the seven wonders of nature, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site - from both sides of the Argentina/Brazil border.
