The island of Korcula, which claims to be the birthplace of Marco Polo, is green with pine, cypress and oak forests, and indented with a string of quiet coves and hidden beaches. And Korcula Town, with its ancient walls, radiating "fishbone" streets and Venetian-influenced architecture, is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Eastern Europe.
