Just for Families
Our Family Trips set the stage for fun first-hand experiences that help kids develop relationships with nature that will grow as they grow. And we introduce kids to other cultures by connecting them in an entertaining yet enriching way with the history, foods, customs and people of our global community.
“The kids’-only activities were amazingly well thought outthey were learning without feeling taught,” marveled one mom. Our trips take your children out of the television-and-technology tornado and into a world of natural wonders, where watching a dance of blue morpho butterflies or a grazing moose family ranks right up there with a new Harry Potter book. Here your children can leap into adventures like rafting, horseback and camel riding, canyoneering, snorkeling, kayaking and rock climbing. They can pan for gold in Alaska and ride an elephant through the jungle in Thailand.
Another recent guest had this to say: "The trip to Kauai with our three grandsons far exceeded our expectations. We had approached this vacation with some fear because they are not very active kids and prefer amusement parks and video games. The guides were able to take three couch potato kids and not only motivate them to enjoy being active but also helped to build their confidence in all of the activities while making it fun too. It not only opened their world to new experiences like kayaking and surfing, they also now know that there is more to a fun vacation than just going to amusement parks. The Backroads guides went above and beyond on this one to make sure that each of them had special experiences. I can’t thank you enough!"
“Traveling Backroads-style helped introduce our children to Europe and taught them how much richer travel is when you talk to the people, eat their food and give yourself over to their way of life,” noted one pleased parent. Your children’s horizons will expand as we explore working windmills, ceramics studios, artists’ homes, aquariums and chefs’ kitchens. Imagine investigating an underground lake in the Dordogne and enjoying an evening of storytelling in the Italian Alps. We’ll pique their natural curiosity and sense of fun with scavenger hunts that uncover intriguing details about the region they’re traveling in.
“Our family learned and experienced a lot on this trip. The activities were varied and the leaders flexible in working the schedule around the weather and the group's interests.”
