The arrest of suspected terrorists and the resulting increase in security in the UK and elsewhere has raised questions from travelers and travel suppliers alike as to what coverage, if any, is available under the policy provisions.
Following are guidelines for frequently asked questions or situations:
If a passenger wishes to cancel his/her trip or return home early due to June 30, 2007 events in the Scotland, is the cancellation covered by the policy provisions?
No, while many of our policies include a provision to cover trip cancellation or trip interruption due to covered Terrorist Acts, the plan provisions do not cover a threat of Terrorist Acts as is the situation at the Glsgow airport and the circumstances resulting from that situation.
Is a passenger covered if his/her flight is canceled as a result of these events?
There is no coverage under the Trip Cancellation or Interruption provisions. However, for passengers already on their trip who are stranded, there is coverage for reimbursement of additional hotel, meal, telephone and local transportation expenses incurred during the delay under the Travel Delay Benefit. For the Travel Delay Benefit, check your certificate for benefit limits, and keep all receipts for expenses incurred.
