Getting Acquainted
Q. What is MyBackroads?
A. MyBackroads is a helpful resource for planning your Backroads vacations and sharing memories of your recent journeys with friends and family. The easy-to-use features of MyBackroads will help you to save your favorite trip itineraries, create journals of your past travels and prepare for future vacations with Backroads.
Q. How do I access MyBackroads?
A. Through the MyBackroads link on the Backroads Home Page and on every trip page in the top navigation bar.
Creating MyBackroads Accounts
Q. Who is eligible for a MyBackroads account?
A. Anyone who’s thinking about taking a Backroads vacation. (You need not have previously traveled with Backroads.)
Q. How do I create a new MyBackroads account?
A. Click on the MyBackroads link on the Backroads Home Page or in the top navigation bar on any trip page to open the MyBackroads Welcome page. Fill in the requested information: e-mail address, first name, last name and password. Confirm your password, and then click Submit. You’ll be taken to your personal MyBackroads Home Page.
Q. What if I’ve forgotten my password?
A. At the bottom of the Welcome page, click on Forgot Your Password, which triggers an e-mail message that will be sent to your e-mail address with your password.
MyFavorite Trips
Q. How do I save trips in the MyFavorite Trips?
A. At the bottom left side bar on each trip page is a Add This Trip to Your MyFavorites link. Click on it and that trip will be saved to your MyBackroads.
Q. How do I request information from Backroads on a particular trip?
A. Once you’ve saved a trip in your MyFavorite Trips, you can request additional details by clicking on E-mail Me next to the trip you’ve saved. Ask specific questions about the trip in the message box and they will be sent directly to a Backroads Trip Consultant for response.
Q. How do I forward a trip from MyFavorite Trips to a friend?
A. Once you’ve saved a trip in your MyFavorite Trips, you can share trip details with one or more friends by clicking on Send this trip to a friend to the right of each trip you’ve saved. Simply insert the e-mail address(es), separating multiple addresses by a comma and adding any comments in the message box.
Q. How do I remove a trip from MyFavorites?
A. When you’re ready to remove a trip from your MyFavorite Trips, simply click on Remove next to the trip that you’ve saved.
My Travel Albums
Q. What exactly is a Travel Album?
A. A Travel Album is way to capture your memories—both written and visual—in an online “scrapbook” that can be shared with friends and family.
Q. How do I create a new Travel Album?
A. On your MyBackroads Home Page, there’s a section called My Travel Albums. Beneath the heading, Create a new album opens up the Travel Album Editor. The first step is to create a name for your album in the “Album Title” box. Then you can add trip notes in the “Album Body” box and save by clicking on Finish.
Q. How do I add photos to my Travel Album?
A. In the Travel Album Editor, after you've given your album a title, click on Add Pictures to upload photos. Photos need to be stored as "jpg" or "tif" files in your computer. Click on the “Browse” button, search for your photo files, and indicate where you’d like the photo to appear—at the beginning, end or middle of your photo collection. You can title the photo by entering text into the “Image Caption” box. To save the photo to your Travel Album and add another, click on Add Pictures. To close out of the Album Editor, click on Finish.
Q. How do I view the photos in my Travel Album?
A. On your MyBackroads Home Page, each album you created will be listed by the title you gave it. Click on the name of the album you wish to view. To move forward or backward between your photos, click on the small double arrows beneath the displayed photo.
Q. How do I edit my albums?
A. On your MyBackroads Home Page, each album you created will be listed by the title you gave it. To the right you’ll find an option to Edit this album. Click on this link to open your album. Simply make any desired changes and click on the Finish button to save your edits.
Q. How do I send an album I’ve created to a friend?
A. On your MyBackroads Home Page, each album you created will be listed by the title you gave it. To the right you’ll find an option to Send this journal to a friend. Click on this link and fill out the form with the e-mail address(es) of your friend(s) and any message you would like to send.
Q. How do I delete a journal that I’ve created?
A. On your MyBackroads Home Page, each album you created will be listed by the title you gave it. To the right you’ll find an option to Delete this album. You will get a confirmation window making sure you want to delete the album. Simply click on this link and that album will be deleted.
Q.How do I store albums sent to me from other MyBackroads members?
A. On you’re MyBackroads Home Page, there is a category called “Additional albums.” All albums forwarded to you by Backroads friends will reside here and be identified by title. You will have similar options as with your own albums, such as forwarding and deleting.
Miscellaneous
Q. How do I sign up for Backroads e-mail newsletters?
A. If you are not signed up to receive our monthly, informational e-mail newsletters, you will be given the opportunity to do so once you’ve created your MyBackroads account. Simply click on “Sign-up to receive our e-mail newsletters” and you will automatically be added to the list. The sign-up message will disappear from your homepage once you've subscribed. To unsubscribe, click on this link and enter your e-mail address.
Q. How do I unsubscribe from the Backroads e-mail newsletter mailing list?
A. To unsubscribe, click on http://www.backroads.com/email/ and enter your name and e-mail address and click unsubscribe.
Q. Why do I need to check a release clause for MyTravel Album?
A. Checking the release clause on the travel album pages authorizes Backroads to use select content from your Travel Album for display on the Backroads Web site, in Backroads catalogs, advertisements and other marketing and promotional efforts, should Backroads desire.
