Traveling Solo Doesn't Mean Traveling Alone

While independent travelers may be planning to travel solo, that doesn’t mean they relish the prospect of spending a week’s vacation alone in the car with a crumpled map and an empty pretzel bag. Nor do they crave the (literal) human contact found on a crowded bus with 50 strangers whose only shared interest is in “doing Europe.” And some people just find it hard to relax in a place where “May I rub oil on your back?” is the standard opener. But how to meet people who are successful, active and confident? And who share common interests?

It is an old idea, but the best way to make new friends is to do the things you enjoy. New friends are found in abundance on a Backroads Singles+Solos Trip, where traveling solo does not mean traveling alone. Backroads vacations allow independent travelers to explore intriguing destinations with new friends and companions. Solo travelers can socialize with a comfortable crowd or with just a few.

They can be pampered in first-rate accommodations and indulge in excellent cuisine on a Premiere Inn Trip, relax at a cozy family-run hotel on a Casual Inn Trip, or enjoy the convivial warmth of relating the day’s adventure around a campfire beneath a star-studded sky on a Deluxe Camping Trip. Whatever accommodations they choose, the camaraderie developed while making the push up that last Tuscan hill together, or being the first people to turn the corner on a stunning view of the Grand Canyon, is a camaraderie built upon a common interest in an active lifestyle and in intimately experiencing a new region. All this happens in an environment where people are at their natural best—fit, relaxed, open to new adventures.

Backroads Singles+Solos Trips aren’t limited to those folks that are unmarried—those who are married and vacationing without spouses are also welcome. Additionally, solo travelers are welcome not only on Singles+Solos trips but also on all Classic Trips, which have a mix of singles and couples.
