Backroads Cooks Up Camping Magic
BERKELEY, CA (April 2007)Rave reviews of Backroads Deluxe Camping meals are a common theme in guests’ trip evaluations: “The food was fantastic!” “The Trip Leaders were awesome chefs.” “Camp cuisine was outstanding.” “We couldn’t believe the fabulous meals the [leaders] prepared.” Backroads’ camping menus are legendaryand there’s no need to dress up for dinner.
Take, for example, this sample dinner menu, with each dish freshly prepared:
Appetizer: Assorted crackers with sun-dried tomato and goat cheese spread
Soup: Tomato bisque
Entrée: Grilled salmon, Mediterranean vegetables and hot-from-the-Dutch oven cornbread
Dessert: Warm fruit crumble
Local specialties infuse menus with authentic flavors. In seafood-rich Maine, for instance, featured items include mussels, salmon, lobster and clams. While in Southwest canyon country, black beans, rice and plenty of salsa add regional spice. Every effort is made to accommodate vegetarian preferences and food restrictions, including grilled tofu! And on Family Trips, adults can dine on gourmet fare while kids dig in to pasta, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pizza.
Designing menus with appeal is an ongoing effort. Trip Leaders and other staff continually recommend tasty additions and recipe improvements, and menus are updated frequently to incorporate the best of these ideas. On a Backroads Camping Trip, no one goes home hungryand most go home with recipe inspirations for their next cookout.
With top-of-the-line outdoor gear and equipment; active days amid stunning scenery; gourmet meals (with no dishes to wash!), evenings of fireside camaraderie and peaceful nights under a blanket of stars, Backroads delivers everything travelers want in an al fresco adventure.
