Families Are Happy Campers with Backroads!

Dear Traveler,

Alison IlesWhy are Backroads camping trips so perfect for families? It's simple, thanks to a winning combo of awesome activities, enriching encounters with Mother Nature, and the ideal balance of time together and "energy-boosting" time apart. Mom and Dad, you'll appreciate the way Backroads handles the more tedious aspects of camping (like setting up the tents, cooking and cleaning!), allowing for a vacation that's truly relaxing and hassle-free. Kids will love the chance to let loose in the great outdoors, sleep under the stars, hang out with cool Backroads leaders and enjoy the instant camaraderie of new friends.

And there's no better way for the whole gang to be immersed in nature. Spend quality time together sitting around the campfire, savoring a tasty, freshly prepared meal, telling stories and sharing new experiences. With no distractions other than the sparkling night sky, crickets chirping or fish jumping in the nearby lake, Backroads camping trips offer endless opportunities for families to bond.

Don't just take our word for it—hear firsthand from Laura Harding, whose family has traveled and camped with us for the past five summers.

We hope to welcome your family on a Backroads trip this year!

Backroads Families
Harding Family We'd like to introduce you to Laura, Joe, Jameson and Julia from New Hampshire, who've camped with us every summer for the past five years. In fact, their upcoming Glacier Multisport trip is the only Backroads camping trip they haven't yet done!

"Camping is a family bonding experience and Backroads makes it easy, fun and carefree," explains Laura. "Our kids like many things about Backroads camping trips: making new friends, sleeping in tents, spending time around the campfire, the organized kid activities, and of course the daily family activities—biking, hiking and watersports. Joe and I appreciate the support of the Backroads leaders, and being able to choose different levels of activity for each family member, with shorter routes for younger children and longer options for older kids and grown-ups." Laura and Joe also value the camaraderie that seems to develop effortlessly among the youngsters on Backroads trips. "We enjoy watching our kids make new friends while playing at the campsite—we're then able to relax and enjoy the trip!"

Of all their Backroads camping vacations, a particular family favorite is Yellowstone & Grand Teton Multisport for its amazing scenery and abundance of wildlife. Laura notes, "We especially liked biking past the bison!" As for a memorable trip moment? "In the Canadian Rockies, Jameson woke to an elk grazing right in front of his tent. The elk noticed him but did not seem to be bothered. Jameson slowly closed the zipper and waited a few moments before exiting the tent to join us for breakfast!" She adds, "Each trip has been wonderful. Backroads does an excellent job. Every detail is perfect! Perhaps Backroads will have a new camping trip for next year? If not we may have to expand our horizons and travel to Europe—with Backroads of course."
